HR 4 - Can the Red Sox afford to rest players?
Q: If this were the playoffs tomorrow, could Adley Rushman be in the lineup given his elbow issue?
Yes, but with caution; the elbow flare-up is manageable, and the decision to play or rest will be guided by how he responds to treatment and the broader need to keep him healthy for the stretch.
HR 4 - Can the Red Sox afford to rest players?
Q: When you look at guys coming back from injuries, how do you balance getting them back to full speed with not rushing them?
We assess each player with a clear set of benchmarks, prioritize medical clearance and on-field performance data, and plan rest periods that align with how their bodies respond, even if it means delaying some return to ensure long-term health.
9/3/26 Full Show - Patriots still playing games with Gonzalez | Red Sox need to get healthy
Q: Bill, what went into your decision to take over offensive play calling this season and how do you think it will impact the team?
O'Brien explains the move as a way to leverage his experience, keep players organized, and apply a cohesive offensive plan, while acknowledging the need for collaboration with the existing offensive staff and ensuring players stay healthy and prepared for the season.
Craig Breslow explains why they are resting players
Q: Is it sustainable for how good they're feeling with coming off these injuries?
The plan is to maintain a deliberate rehab build-up and to give players days off as needed, relying on depth to keep the roster fresh without sacrificing performance.
Craig Breslow explains why they are resting players
Q: To borrow an NBA term, it seems like we are seeing some load management going on. Is that kind of what the strategy-wise, what you guys are doing right now?
The approach is to keep players completely healthy and recovered for a stretch run, using smart rest to manage workload while not compromising the ability to contribute when needed.
