  • Everything is great except…

Wonderful, informative show. Please fix the levels between the two hosts. If we can hear Gary, Edd’s voice sounds like a cannon. If Edd sounds at a normal level, Gary is inaudible.

  • Get Gerry a better mic

I love The Race and listen to the main podcasts, and the topics in this tech show podcast are very interesting, but I just can’t listen to it because of Gerry’s awful mic. Please give him a better mic (and have him farther away from the mic)

  • Great show but..

I love the show, the only thing that gets me is they post it to “the race f1 show” fees so you really don't need to subscribe.

  • In Need of New Expert Voices

I applaud you for making this podcast, but please refresh it with some younger technical experts who have recent experience of F1 and can provide more detailed, accurate, and contemporary insights. More facts, fewer opinions. Such people are out there, but we never hear from them on this show. And how many times do we need to hear about how Jaguar was badly managed, or how things were done in EJ’s day? Irrelevant now.

  • Opinions

Everyone has a right to an opinions but most of them that are expressed on this show are just dumb. I’m done with this show, there tons of better F1 podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Why Mercedes should fear McLaren in F1's second half
Q: If you could combine a power unit and chassis from two different eras, what would you choose?
A high-revving V10-style chassis paired with modern hybrid assist and an active aero approach could maximize on-track excitement, balancing power with grip, though practicality and driveability would be challenging.
Why Mercedes should fear McLaren in F1's second half
Q: With chassis changes for 2027, could a 2027-spec chassis be run in 2026, and is there value in testing ahead of next year's rules?
Regulations would govern what can be run; teams may simulate or develop toward 2027 requirements, but actual 2027-spec chassis would typically not be operable in 2026 due to changing bodywork and aero rules, though some components could be explored within current allowances.
Why Mercedes should fear McLaren in F1's second half
Q: What factors determine when an upgrade is debuted, and is it ever driven by sprint weekends or track-specific needs?
Upgrades are timed based on package strength, manufacturing readiness, and anticipated performance gain, with teams avoiding big plays on sprint weekends unless the potential benefit justifies the risk and disruption.
Why Mercedes should fear McLaren in F1's second half
Q: Hi Gary and Edd, why is there such a difference in performance between teammates when the cars are energy-starved?
Differences arise from how each car is driven, setup, and how the energy deployment is managed on a lap-by-lap basis; even with identical hardware, individual driving styles and how the system is configured lead to measurable gaps.
Assessing Red Bull's recent upgrade and the reason for Cadillac's brake 'cooking'
Q: Where does the power unit end and the team's responsibility begin in terms of development and integration?
The power unit supplier provides the core engine, cooling, plenum, turbo, drive shafts, gearbox hydraulics, battery, and control system; teams then integrate and develop the rest, including the exhaust pipes, radiators, and other cooling and drivetrain components, with the boundaries defined by the power unit supply perimeter.
