  • Everything is great except…

Wonderful, informative show. Please fix the levels between the two hosts. If we can hear Gary, Edd’s voice sounds like a cannon. If Edd sounds at a normal level, Gary is inaudible.

  • Get Gerry a better mic

I love The Race and listen to the main podcasts, and the topics in this tech show podcast are very interesting, but I just can’t listen to it because of Gerry’s awful mic. Please give him a better mic (and have him farther away from the mic)

  • Great show but..

I love the show, the only thing that gets me is they post it to “the race f1 show” fees so you really don't need to subscribe.

  • In Need of New Expert Voices

I applaud you for making this podcast, but please refresh it with some younger technical experts who have recent experience of F1 and can provide more detailed, accurate, and contemporary insights. More facts, fewer opinions. Such people are out there, but we never hear from them on this show. And how many times do we need to hear about how Jaguar was badly managed, or how things were done in EJ’s day? Irrelevant now.

  • Opinions

Everyone has a right to an opinions but most of them that are expressed on this show are just dumb. I’m done with this show, there tons of better F1 podcasts.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Is the FIA right to ban active aero for Monaco?
Q: Why do we need Adwo (ADU) that gives extra cost cap headroom for engine development, instead of allowing engine upgrades freely?
The guests explain that a regulated ADU framework helps keep the field competitive by preventing an endless cycle of costly engine upgrades, while still giving teams strategic flexibility within a controlled budget.
Fixing Ferrari’s risk-averse culture + Dubious 2026 F1 car developments
Q: Could F1 ever reintroduce a V8-based engine formula, and what would be the constraints?
A V8 with limited RPM and a controlled share of electrical power could be feasible by 2028 or 2030, but it would require substantial financial backing and a regulated framework to keep costs in check while preserving performance and raceability.
Fixing Ferrari’s risk-averse culture + Dubious 2026 F1 car developments
Q: What does margining in design look like in real terms for engineering a race car?
It's about building a concept that can be optimized in wind tunnels and on the track, while ensuring reliability and staying within budget, so you can push for performance without sacrificing the chance of finishing the race.
Should the FIA have clamped down on certain Miami upgrades?
Q: With all the speculation about Red Bull not being eligible for Aduo, what changed since the years of domination? Is this a people problem versus a tooling problem?
Gary notes that Red Bull's wind tunnel and engine development challenges are linked to both people and tools, emphasizing data interpretation, the need for gut feel to challenge results, and the complexities of integrating an in-house engine with their car. He also argues that all teams should have a chance to propose improvements and that cross-team comparisons are difficult when engines differ.
On location at Haas's TPC test + Gary's verdict on F1's pre-Miami rule tweaks
Q: What is the role of damage in car design and could teams design for damaged states?
Damage typically hurts performance, but there are nuanced ideas like hardening or perforation lines to manage weight if wing end plates or other bits fail; overall, you learn from damage but you don't want to rely on it for performance.
