  • The Gamecube IS cool

The GameCube was cool podcast is one of my favorites 😆 I did not grow up with the GameCube but this podcast is the reason why I bought a GameCube and I’ve been listening pretty much each week since the shrek episode. Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Nintendo DS Shovelware
Q: What was the role of licensed properties in DS shovelware?
Licensed games were a staple, leveraging popular brands (e.g., Zack and Cody, Elf Bowling, Cory in the House) to drive impulse purchases at checkout tables and mass-market retailers, often with questionable quality.
Nintendo DS Shovelware
Q: What made the DS shovelware boom unique compared to earlier generations?
The DS introduced a handheld, touch-based, casual-friendly ecosystem and a massive audience, which publishers aggressively filled with licensed titles, coaching games, and party- or 'girls' series, creating a distinctive, rapid-fire market for shovelware between roughly 2007 and 2011.
Alice Madness Returns
Q: What other Disney fairy tale character would you want to receive the Alice Madness Returns treatment?
Dan expresses a desire for another Alice game and expands on the idea that the franchise's dark, mature take on fairy tales is the core appeal, suggesting a continued exploration of those twisted themes.
Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock - Pt. II
Q: What made Guitar Hero 3 so much more successful than earlier entries?
The guests cite a combination of name recognition, broader platforms (including Wii), cheaper entry points, and the perception that Guitar Hero 3 offered a more polished, more challenging but still accessible experience that appealed to casual players and veterans alike.
Guitar Hero 3: Legends of Rock - Pt. I
Q: Why do you think Guitar Hero 3 was so successful compared to its predecessors?
It combined a strong soundtrack, cross‑platform reach, and an accessible but deep gameplay loop, amplified by smart marketing and a new, wireless peripheral strategy that made it easy for parents to buy a shared experience for the whole family.
