Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

How AI Change Actually Happens on Campus
Q: So give me an example of a change that's happened because of your work in this role.
A pilot and platform rollout at the University of Arizona Global Campus involved recruiting a diverse group of faculty and staff to test AI tools in real workflows, gathering feedback, and iterating on how AI can be embedded in daily operations rather than just purchasing licenses.
Where Should You Spend Your Next Marketing Dollar?
Q: How does AI intersect with marketing mix modeling, and can it lower the barrier to entry without sacrificing accuracy?
AI helps with data cleaning and processing large model runs, but it currently offers mainly tactical, not strategic, guidance; MMM still requires human judgment to guide core decisions, though AI can lower the entry floor.
Where Should You Spend Your Next Marketing Dollar?
Q: So Josh, why did you open with the $10 million mistake and what does that story illustrate about marketing decisions today?
It illustrates that dashboards can look perfect while the business fails because the data and models don't capture the full picture or all players involved, highlighting the need for holistic, aggregate-level analysis like MMM.
What Campus Leaders Should Ask Before Renewal Season
Q: What should campus leaders ask about the roadmap during a renewal or evaluation?
Focus on when the promised features will actually deliver, how the roadmap aligns with the vendor's incentives, and whether the company can be held to contractual delivery timelines. Be direct and require concrete timelines or concessions if timelines slip.
Career Progression in an AI-Shaped Job Market
Q: What's a practical way to improve interview readiness beyond the resume?
Demonstrate genuine curiosity about the organization and its people, prepare thoughtful questions for the interviewer, and show comfort and fit with the team rather than trying to overwhelm them.
