Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep 24 - Shaper Interview with Gary McNeill - Gary McNeill Concepts
Q: What prompted you to introduce the Taurus channel across your boards?
Dropping the middle rocker and adding a through-channel through the deck gave more hold and control, especially at high speeds; it was about extending the sweet spot and allowing the rail to twist for better energy transfer.
Ep 21 - Shaper Interview with Dylan Perese - DP Surfboards
Q: What prompted the leap to a new factory and how has that affected your workflow?
The move was driven by a need for space, efficiency, and better workflow, including a carbon filtration system for neighbors and a reconfigured layout to maximize output; the shift temporarily slowed production during the transition but ultimately allowed greater scale and improved processes.
Ep 21 - Shaper Interview with Dylan Perese - DP Surfboards
Q: How did your early experiences with your father shape your approach to shaping today?
Dylan explains that hands-on projects in his youth built practical skills and a love for tangible results, while mentorship from Graham King instilled discipline and a relentless focus on perfection that still guides his work.
Ep 27 - Shaper Interview with Beau Armstrong - Armstrong Surfboards
Q: How do you handle tooling and CAD in your process?
Beau uses Shape3D for outlines and templates, while he still relies on hand shaping with a planer for most work; CAD is used mainly to size and experiment with templates.
Ep 27 - Shaper Interview with Beau Armstrong - Armstrong Surfboards
Q: What are your current shaping focuses and how do you balance different board types?
He describes shaping a mix of quads, twins, modern long boards, and a mini gun, with a subtle but effective bottom shape (single concave into a V behind the fins) that works across his models.
