  • Deep Meaningjnful Conversations

I came across this podcast couple months ago and have been enjoying it immensely since. Each guest has their very unique perspective in the deeper meaning of medicine and what each can do to not lose sight on those things due to burnt out etc. I really appreciate the time and efforts that got put into this. Everyone should take a listen! So much you can gain from these!

  • Promising Show

Looks like this show is in its second year but it's quite impressive who they've managed to talk to. The conversations are fairly high quality though I did wish the audio quality was more consistent (I know it's sometimes not the show's fault but still). Hope the hosts continue improving.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The Promise of Value-Based Medicine | Farzad Mostashari, MD
Q: What would a patient experience look like under a value-based, primary-care-led system?
A patient would experience more accessible, coordinated care with proactive management, less unnecessary hospitalization, and closer clinician-patient relationships, enabled by data sharing, better care transitions, and payment models that reward keeping people healthy rather than documenting services.
The Promise of Value-Based Medicine | Farzad Mostashari, MD
Q: How did EMRs evolve in the U.S., and why did they end up focused on billing rather than prevention?
He explains that the rollout prioritized documentation to support billing under fee-for-service, leading to templates and checklists that rewarded paperwork over patient outcomes. The transition toward value-based models aimed to realign incentives toward prevention and better health results.
The Promise of Value-Based Medicine | Farzad Mostashari, MD
Q: What initially drew you to medicine, and how did that shape your career?
He describes a lifelong pull between hands-on clinical care and public health, inspired by family experiences and exposure to both bedside healing and population health. This blend guided him toward roles that connect patient care with policy and system-level change.
The Physician and His Doctor | Bryant Lin, MD & Heather Wakelee, MD
Q: What is your approach to first visits with patients facing daunting cancer diagnoses?
The process begins by understanding what the patient already knows and helping them frame their fears with realistic information about their condition.
Joyspan and Aging | Kerry Burnight, MD
Q: How can a person actually find meaning in their life if they feel it lacks meaning?
Finding meaning requires intention and recognizing opportunities for kindness and connection in everyday interactions.
