  • We’re updating the kitchen

Late to the life adulting shift in tone from previously niche Magic the Gathering podcast. The one thing they actually were subject matter experts on has been abandoned for the exploration of being a grown-up. As banal as listening to your co-workers discuss their heavy drinking and binging on media.

  • 10/10

Dredge was my first modern deck bc of the old episode where Shane and the lads did a deep dive. His enthusiasm regarding the deck sold me on it, and I loved playing modern for the first time. I’ve listened to every episode since, and even though the content is shifting, I still really enjoy any time you guys talk about Magic. Thanks for the hours of entertainment!

  • Not what it used to be

I used to love this show but they’ve gone away from their roots and everything that made them unique. It’s not really The Dive Down anymore

  • Informative and fun

The only MTG podcast I’ve been able to get into. Genuinely enjoy each episode and look forward to new releases.

I do wish for a little more focus on whatever format the RCQ season is but I do know that wasn’t the foundation of the pod.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 359: Defeating Demons in The Killing Stone
Q: What is the Reckoning and how does it fit into the 1.0 vision?
The Reckoning is the endgame culmination planned for the 1.0 release, representing the ultimate convergence of the game's narrative and mechanics after a structured progression through campaigns and rituals.
Episode 359: Defeating Demons in The Killing Stone
Q: What makes the pack-based deck construction special compared to single-card decisions?
Packing three-to-four-card sets lets players weigh greed and synergies in a broader decision space, encouraging strategic forethought and context-aware decisions rather than one-off card picks, and it also serves as a stealth tutor, guiding players toward effective combinations.
Episode 359: Defeating Demons in The Killing Stone
Q: How does bargaining work in the game, and what does it add to the experience?
During multiple bargaining moments in a run, you bid on benefits for yourself or the demon with chits, which creates a slow-burn tension and a sense of genuine choice, making the outcome less predictable and more player-driven.
Episode 359: Defeating Demons in The Killing Stone
Q: What is The Killing Stone, in plain terms for someone on the street?
It's a deck-building card battler wrapped in a narrative about wrestling with sin and the devil, where you place cards on a board, interact with a local environment, and experience long-term consequences across runs that feel like a connected, unfolding story.
Episode 354: The Young Jerks of Weast Coast Games
Q: How do you balance that and make sure that stuff gets done in both columns?
We always have a good to-do list and prioritize efficiently for Weast Coast while keeping Young Jerks first.
