  • The best science podcast yet!

Super, super engaging show! It perfectly balances science and comedy and makes the deep sea understandable without simplifying things. Plus, I love how they always get interesting guests (like artists) for new perspectives. As a marine biologist, I recommend it to anyone that’s a fan of the ocean!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Hadal Zone Master Class with Professor Alan Jamieson
Q: What makes the Hadal Zone different from other oceanic regions?
The Hadal Zone has unique characteristics due to its depth and the ecological isolation of species in deep trenches.
PRESSURISED: 065 – Giant Testate Protists with Professor Andrew Gooday
Q: How do they reproduce?
Classically, forams will have an alternating life cycle where they have a sexual generation... and an asexual generation.
PRESSURISED: 065 – Giant Testate Protists with Professor Andrew Gooday
Q: Do we know what the lifespan is?
I think a few years maybe. The remarkable thing was that all three grew together at the same time.
PRESSURISED: 065 – Giant Testate Protists with Professor Andrew Gooday
Q: How do we preserve them? Do we dry them? Do we preserve them in alcohol?
We usually preserve them in formalin. We can also dry them. Many of them are robust enough to dry.
The Deco-Stop: 004 - No Word for Ocean with Yakup Niyazi
Q: Did you already decide you wanted to be a marine scientist before seeing the ocean or was it the seeing the ocean that put you down that path?
Yakup did not initially choose marine science; instead, it was a need for a career shift away from routine oil engineering.
