  • The best science podcast yet!

Super, super engaging show! It perfectly balances science and comedy and makes the deep sea understandable without simplifying things. Plus, I love how they always get interesting guests (like artists) for new perspectives. As a marine biologist, I recommend it to anyone that’s a fan of the ocean!

The Deco-Stop: 004 - No Word for Ocean with Yakup Niyazi
Q: Did you already decide you wanted to be a marine scientist before seeing the ocean or was it the seeing the ocean that put you down that path?
Yakup did not initially choose marine science; instead, it was a need for a career shift away from routine oil engineering.
The Deco-Stop: 004 - No Word for Ocean with Yakup Niyazi
Q: Could you explain where it is that you come from and why that relationship with the ocean is quite obscure?
Yakup describes Aksu as one of the farthest places from the ocean, with limited cultural stories about it.
PRESSURISED: 060 – Mesophotic Reefs with Yi-Kai Tea
Q: How is the fishing methodology for mesophotic sampling?
Divers have a limited bottom time, typically around eight to nine minutes, requiring efficient collection methods.
Antarctic Fishes
Q: Could you just talk us through the major groups that we're seeing here in Antarctica?
The main groups are the North Athenioids, liparids (snailfishes), and zoarids (eel pouts).
Deep-water corals with Di Tracey
Q: What challenges are deep-sea corals facing due to climate change?
Deep-sea corals are stressed by changing ocean chemistry and temperatures, which affect their growth and ability to maintain their calcium carbonate skeletons, although they do not experience bleaching like shallow corals.
