Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

EP 66: From Quicksilver to Now & Beyond: Lessons in Government Digital Transformation featuring Mark Forman
Q: How did you decide that the Quicksilver project would be your first priority when you entered the White House?
We identified the need to move government online and simplify interactions by focusing on four portfolios—government to citizen, government to business, government to government, and internal efficiency. The aim was to shorten transaction times, reduce the burden on users, and set up a framework that could scale across agencies through consolidated funding and governance.
EP 63: From Data to Impact: How GSA Transformed Digital Analytics featuring Marina Fox
Q: What was the Digital Analytics Program, and how did it get created?
DAP was formed to standardize web analytics across the federal government, replacing disparate, agency-specific data practices with a centralized platform that could scale, train users, and drive data-informed decisions. It began as a shared service funded through government procurement and grew through hands-on evangelism and agency engagement.
EP 63: From Data to Impact: How GSA Transformed Digital Analytics featuring Marina Fox
Q: Can you describe why analytics.usa.gov was created and what it is?
Analytics.usa.gov was created to provide a public-facing window into government data through DAP, enabling transparency and open data access. It launched quickly with cross-agency collaboration to show real-time traffic across participating sites, influencing how the public and news media understand government activity.
EP 71: Transforming Trust: How USPTO is Redefining Customer Experience featuring Charles Thomas
Q: How did you handle governance and getting buy-in from other parts of the organization?
We started with one-to-one relationships to listen and understand different priorities, demonstrated value by solving real problems, and avoided punitive approaches to feedback. We built training, shared customer personas and journeys, and aligned CX with EX to ensure the effort was collaborative and not isolated to a single office.
EP 71: Transforming Trust: How USPTO is Redefining Customer Experience featuring Charles Thomas
Q: Can you share your journey? How did you get into customer experience at USPTO?
I started from technical writing and moved into CX through practical, on-the-ground work with web content, surveys, and usability testing. The experience showed me that understanding who our customers are and what they need from us was foundational, and over time I helped establish formal CX structures, governance, and a citizen-centered mindset across the Trademark and later broader USPTO operations.
