If you’ve ever found yourself staring wistfully at a lock gate while gongoozaling sipping lukewarm tea and thinking, “What this moment needs is a cheese sandwich and a friendly voice talking about towpaths,” then this is your podcast.
David Johns is an absolute legend. A proper decent bloke who knows more about inland waterways than you know about anything. He brings you tales of barges, ducks with attitude, swans with even more, and lock maintenance with the same passion others reserve for Pre... more
Narrowboating, and luckily stumbled upon David’s videos on Prime. We have been hooked since the first episode. Def a little escapism for us but also edge of the seat material. Have the swans grown? 21 locks in 3 hours? Weir alarm on the right! Watch your head in the tunnel. But first it’s time for a cuppa or GT already? Please continue! It is utterly enjoyable. Cheerio!
It’s a pleasure to stumble across people still making “proper podcasts”. Enthusiasts talking knowledgeably and passionately to their community about a niche subject. No careerist comedians or corporate sponsors. I like canals but boating is not really my thing. Having said that, I’m delighted that this podcast is out in the world.
Always enjoy David’s videos and now the podcast (of the monthly newsletter). Very knowledgeable and very well presented due to his past broadcasting experience. There are hundreds of YouTube’ers and Podcasts out there about the inland waterways of Great Britain but David’s if one of the few that is worth my time.
