Aidan Roberts and Sam Prior host this climbing-themed podcast that kind of goes where it goes. Lots of tangents and rambles as well as hopefully thought provoking questions. Sometimes it's very focussed on climbing, sometimes climbing barely comes up. The guests tend to be elite level climbers, but we often willingly get lost in the weeds and end up wildly off-topic. • Sam Prior Is Wrong But I Love His Podcast

I’m not even sure why I enjoy this podcast so much since they spend so much time talking with great specificity about boulders I’ll never try. But both hosts are great guys and it’s a treat to get to hang out with them via podcast. We’re all lucky that Sam is so great at chatting and running a podcast because his resume in the climbing world is quite astounding. And including Aidan as a host is also great fortune. He strikes me as a fairly elusive figure in the world of climbing, constantly lurk... more

  • Two great hosts

The great thing about this podcast is that both the hosts are great. Aidan is great at climbing and Sam is great at podcasting. Together they make a truly enjoyable listening experience. If I’m having a tough day, their friendly banter and careless chatting is just the thing to brighten my mood. Cheers, boys.

  • Long time coming

I’ve been meaning to write a review for this show for ages. I enjoyed the latest episode with Katy just too much to not write a review. The climbing auction was such a fun idea, keep thinking outside the box on these bonus segments. This show is the only climbing pod I listen to these days, it’s nothing but good banter, no ego, and interesting convos.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

E194: Bruce Zou - The first Chinese person to climb 8C talks barefoot sends, quick progression and grade chasing
Q: When did you realize training fingers and overall body awareness would matter as much as strength?
Bruce explains that this realization came after a long phase of chasing grades and recognizing that injuries, aging, and lifestyle demanded a more balanced approach; training became about sustaining long-term progression rather than isolated power, with finger and tendon care playing a central role.
E190: Keenan Takahashi - 10 seconds of fear a year, the pros and cons of large egos and getting distracted by trees
Q: What does legacy mean in climbing for you?
Legacy is tied to vision, mentorship, and the lasting impact of one's choices beyond just first ascents; it involves how you influence others, the ethics you promote, and how your work inspires future climbers.
E190: Keenan Takahashi - 10 seconds of fear a year, the pros and cons of large egos and getting distracted by trees
Q: Why bolt Dreadnought instead of leaving it unbolted?
The decision is framed around safety, long-term access for climbers, and minimizing ongoing risky setup burdens; Keenan describes a careful evaluation of consequences and the mutual trust with partners.
E190: Keenan Takahashi - 10 seconds of fear a year, the pros and cons of large egos and getting distracted by trees
Q: How did you come up with the idea of 10 Seconds of Fear a Year?
Keenan explains the concept as a yearly target to reduce irrational fear, distinguishing between rational, life-risk concerns and anticipatory anxiety, with a focus on preparation and risk mitigation to keep fear within constructive boundaries.
E191: Allison Vest - Climbing 'big boy' boulders and the work behind the success
Q: How does Allison view the balance between trying from the bottom and progressing from the middle/top?
She emphasizes using bottom attempts strategically to learn and build confidence, but not at the expense of efficiency; progressing from the middle or top can be necessary when bottom attempts derail progress, especially on trips with time pressure.
