  • Need a different interviewer please!

I loved reading the BoldBrush Interviews and was excited to listen to the new FASO podcast. Unfortunately, I don’t enjoy listening to the interviewer because she talks too fast I don’t know what she’s saying and the cadence of her speaking style sounds affected, canned, even artificial…

You’ve now lost an avid artist who used to love your former website not so long ago.

I’ll give one star for effort, that’s it.

  • Interviewer is too young for this job

I can tell that the amazing and mature artists that are being interviewed are often cringing inside because the interviewer is not capable of understanding some of the complexities of the conversations. It's not her fault. She is just too young for this position. Not enough life experience. Not sure how she got this position but there are soooooo many other people who could carry these conversations soooo much better and who would represent the bold brush name better. I remember way back hearing... more

  • Unsubscribed

This could have been a good podcast for marketing ideas and such, but unfortunately the female host was too annoying for me in her speaking style. From the use of “Jesus Christ” or “Jesus” frequently as exclamations and the infamous “like,…”, I just couldn’t do it. Maybe she’s related to the FASO owner and can’t be replaced.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

185 Ned Mueller — Patience, Perseverance, Practice, & Passion
Q: What advice would you give someone who wants to become a full-time artist?
Focus on core fundamentals, find a subject you love, join communities (critiques, groups, workshops), and be willing to do necessary but sometimes unglamorous work like studies and teaching initially. Build a sustainable practice by balancing craft with opportunities to show work and connect with buyers, not just chasing immediate sales.
185 Ned Mueller — Patience, Perseverance, Practice, & Passion
Q: Can you tell us a little bit more about your path as an artist?
Ned describes starting with drawing and illustration, moving to painting as he matured, and navigating health challenges that shaped his balance between work, study, and teaching. He emphasizes persistence, learning through critique, and gradually transitioning from illustration to fine art, while maintaining a strong foundation in drawing.
184 Jennifer Balkan — Fall in Love with the Process
Q: How has Atelier Dojo affected your work and inspiration?
Dojo served as a transformative hub, evolving from a teaching space to a central community that deepened observational work and helped Balkan develop a broader, more studio-based practice while retaining voice and identity.
184 Jennifer Balkan — Fall in Love with the Process
Q: What was the moment you became a full-time artist, and how did you transition from teaching to painting full-time?
She describes leaving a part-time job in 2005, the early gallery solo shows in 2004-2005, and the support from her husband that allowed the shift toward painting full-time while continuing teaching on a project-based basis.
181 Todd Williams — Set Yourself Up for Success!
Q: When was the turning point for you where you realized you could make a living as an artist?
The shift happened when I transitioned from a steady job with Dayspring/Hallmark to pursuing fine art full-time; in the first year after stepping away, my income doubled and I began a journey that led to multiple gallery representations and large-scale projects like Legacy of Nebraska.
