  • The PNW blacktail specific information I’ve been looking for!

Chasing blacktail in Western Washington is a niche pursuit. This is the best information source I’ve found to learn about it. I’m so glad to have discovered this amazing resource.

  • Specialized and Practical Content

I regrettably missed Trophy Tactics course this year, so this podcast has been a initial glimpse until I can take the comprehensive course next year. You can quickly tell that Dave offers practical & step-by-step instructions for hunters for the blacktail and PNW niche. It’s a refreshing change of pace to the barrage of whitetail content.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Year Two, Bigger Buck: Mark Boon's Success Story
Q: How did your approach change from year one to year two?
Year two focused more on locating and patterning the buck rather than relying on last year's scent strategy; the plan involved moving stands, increasing data with trail cameras, and predicting the buck's summer-to-early-season movements to daylight him.
Coyote Hunting Part 3 with Cody Sanchez
Q: What should a new hunter do to avoid giving up after a few unsuccessful stands?
Stay persistent, keep locating coyotes, and remember that success builds motivation; be prepared for many stands before you encounter a coyote, and adjust tactics based on location and wind.
Coyote Hunting Part 3 with Cody Sanchez
Q: If someone could only buy one type of call to start, what would it be?
An open-read hand call is the best single option because it covers howling, pup distress, and distress calls, offering the most versatility for a beginner.
Coyote Hunting Part 3 with Cody Sanchez
Q: What would you consider essential gear for starting out?
The core essentials are a firearm and a reliable call, plus practical clothing and a good mapping system to locate and move between coyotes; beyond that, a fold-out chair or stool can be nice but not essential.
Coyote Hunting With Guest Cody Sanchez
Q: What drew you to coyotes as the main hunting focus, and how did you get started with calling them?
Cody explains that calling was a lifelong passion, beginning with a hand call as a kid, and that coyotes offered a unique blend of challenge and opportunity that kept him hooked, ultimately shaping his career around gear and field techniques.
