  • Best hunting podcast out there!

I found the Rokcast about a year ago, the content is amazing and I have learned a lot from listening. The only thing I would like is more episodes about Oregon deer hunting.

  • Good podcast

Please hire a sound engineer. Robbie sounds like he is talking through a balled up sock and he’s sitting across the room from his microphone. Other than that, the hunting content is very informative. I wish Robbie would stick to exclusively talking about that subject, because when he veers off course, I start wondering why I subscribe.

  • Use to be good

Use to cover all kinds of hunting topics and species. Now it’s just mule deer 98% of the time. And Robby Denning reading a book to you like you’re a child. Totally worthless now.

  • Genuine

Having had the opportunity to meet and shoot with Robbie, he is as genuine in person as he seems on the podcast. Great show, great people, great information, great platform in Rokslide.

  • Mule deer

I enjoy hearing from the biologists on mule deer. I would like to hear from them about the percentage of bucks that make it to each age class. In the Wyoming range, Idaho range, or even Utah. Maybe a comparison between otc and draw units, or even in regions

Keep up the rockcast. I look forward to it each week

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Mapping Utah’s Big Game Migrations with Makeda Hanson
Q: What do you do on a day-to-day basis as the Wildlife Migration Initiative Coordinator?
My daily work centers on managing and interpreting GPS collar data to identify critical habitats and connectivity corridors, coordinating with internal teams and external partners to plan habitat restoration, and guiding policy and restoration efforts to keep migrations viable amid development and drought.
Finding Nowhere: How a Hunting Show Went Mainstream on Prime Video
Q: How did Finding Nowhere come together and evolve into a TV show?
The project started as a personal journey and grew into a collaborative effort, balancing Joel's filming vision with Ryan's practical hunting approach, emphasizing storytelling and the broader experience rather than just the hunt itself.
Surviving a Grizzly Charge (and much more) with Jason West
Q: What happened during the encounter and how did you respond?
The bear approached with predatory intent, the hunter issued warnings, fired warning shots, and ultimately shot to kill when the bear closed to near him; Odin the dog helped deflect the initial charge, and the hunter then secured the area and waited for wildlife authorities to assess the situation.
The Fundamentals of Scouting For Mule Deer & Elk | Hunt West Crossover
Q: How early is too early for mule deer scouting?
Early scouting can work, but if there's real migration happening, information from June can mislead; better to start around early July to capture the stable patterns and then stay with known bucks through the season.
What Do Elk Eat? Elk Nutrition, Habitat, and Finding More Elk with Luke Schultz
Q: Why are elk doing so well compared to deer across the West?
Elk are generalists with huge guts, allowing them to digest a wide range of forage, including bulk, lower-quality foods. They also tend to be less affected by harsh winter weather than deer and can exploit a broad landscape, while deer often face more selective feeding and higher vulnerability to certain ecological shifts.

Frequently Asked Questions About Rokcast

What is Rokcast about and what kind of topics does it cover?

Audiences consist of Western hunting enthusiasts who crave practical field tactics, wildlife biology context, and gear insights. Across episodes, topics circle mule deer, pronghorn and other big-game species, habitat and population management, and analysis of hunting technology, optics, and gear. A notable throughline is data-driven discussion and real-world experiences—from mule deer management policy to backcountry hunts and lab-age studies—often featuring biologists, outfitters, and gear insiders. The show stands out for blending policy, science, and hands-on hunting stories with actionable takeaways, and for weaving sponsor messages and gear discussions into the conversation without losing depth on wildlife and hunting culture.
