  • Great Concept…but 🤷‍♂️

Great concept, and plenty of good topics are covered on the podcast. A majority of the information is helpful.

    BUT…

The two guys doing the podcast have ZERO personalities. They literally sound like the old SNL skit, where they make fun of National Public Radio.

The guys often ask questions of their guest, where I’m (and, the guest, too) often thinking “The guy literally went over that already. He actually covered that topic in depth.” I mean, do the hosts even pay attention???

John Mehaffey Discusses Best Blackjack Games in Vegas 2026 | BJA186
Q: Is there any good value left on the Strip, or should players look downtown or off-strip?
There is still value downtown and off-strip where you can find 3-2 games at $5-$15, with better overall odds and lower house edges than many strip variants, though availability varies by time of day and property.
John Mehaffey Discusses Best Blackjack Games in Vegas 2026 | BJA186
Q: What new blackjack variants have you seen lately on the strip?
John describes several new games with side bets and higher minimums, including downtown and strip variants with 4 side bets, 23% bonuses, and tables requiring $5 to $7 minimums, all generally worse for the player than traditional 3-2 blackjack, and emphasizes the importance of learning the exact strategy for each to avoid losing value.
July Mailbag Q&A: Online Blackjack, Deviations, Travel Budgeting | BJA189
Q: Is it smart to play the side bet Match 20 when the count is plus four or higher, betting only 250 to see where it takes you?
The consensus is to analyze the math behind the side bet and avoid casual experimentation; if the side bet is not clearly positive EV at the counted level, it should not be pursued and you should focus on the core blackjack strategy and overall EV.
[Rebroadcast] Beating a Mobile Game for $650K w/ Magnum Wordsmith | BJA108
Q: How has the journey affected your health and personal life?
The grind took a heavy toll on health—long hours, extreme focus, and stress—leading to posture issues and anxiety; I later prioritized balance, sunlight, rest, and family time while gradually reducing hours spent on edge play.
[Rebroadcast] Beating a Mobile Game for $650K w/ Magnum Wordsmith | BJA108
Q: What was the turning point that made you seek boot camps and more formal training?
After notable success and a major win, I realized I could and should improve by learning more formal blackjack skills, attending a boot camp, and then embracing the broader Blackjack Apprenticeship community to sharpen strategic thinking beyond 21 Blitz.
