  • I love this show

Always happy to listen and I learn a ton. I’ve ended up noting so many bands/albums/tracks to listen to based on everyone’s 5 picks, and even finally picked up some BFSD products, which I’m thrilled with.

Episode 9 specific: I did feel everyone’s attitude about sharing kits to be eye-opening. I’ve been gigging since 1994 and am always ok with letting someone use my bass/toms/stands. Especially now, being well into my 40s and having good gear. If I’m playing some punk club I’m happy to let some... more

  • Awesome music podcast!

One of my favorite music focused podcasts in general (not only because I’m a drummer). Ben is a great host who brings on fantastic musicians and lets them tell their story about some of the music that has helped shape them. Every episode is fascinating and I’ve discovered a lot of new music from this podcast, and even learned new things about music I already knew. Keep up the good work, Ben!

The Drum Panel: We’re just junkies
Q: What size venues are you dreaming of, and how long would that tour be?
They envision 3,000 to 4,000+ seat rooms as an ideal balance of intimacy and scale, with longer runs of about three weeks, and a preference for venues with solid backing crews and accessible catering, while recognizing there are still markets where smaller rooms can be magical.
The Drum Panel: The corkboard at Piggly Wiggly
Q: What was Eric's biggest thing that didn't make sense at the time but ended up being pivotal to his growth?
Eric discusses early career choices and the realization that opportunities can come from non-linear paths, including networking, adaptability, and embracing diverse gigs that built his credibility and open doors later on.
John Stanier (Helmet, Battles, Tomahawk) shares the records that shaped his playing
Q: Why did Rush make the first pick, and what about Permanent Waves resonated with you?
It represented a pivotal shift in drumming precision and musical storytelling; Peart's deliberate groove and the way the band balanced complexity with accessibility made a lasting impression.
Tim Very (Manchester Orchestra) shares the five records that shaped his playing [Revisited]
Q: What is your relationship with technique?
It's important to be multifaceted and to focus on how you serve songs rather than just showing off drumming skills.
Tim Very (Manchester Orchestra) shares the five records that shaped his playing [Revisited]
Q: What was the first song you learned?
I started to try to learn Nirvana songs, which is a killer place to start as a drummer because he writes attainable drum parts that are perfect for songs.
