  • Episode 309

I just listened to episode of 309 and I am so thankful that these conversations are being had. It was an eye opening conversation because it provided examples of how misinterpretation of behaviors can have adverse and sometimes deadly effects on people who have autism. Autism training and awareness should be required in law enforcement.

Helping Complex Kids Thrive Through Practical Behavioral Parenting Strategies: Jenny Demark, Linda Reinstein and Conrad Leung | Session 332
Q: Can you give us an overview of what the three parts—prepare, teach, and motivate—mean in practical terms?
Prepare involves front-loading strategies to reduce the likelihood of problem behavior, teach is about explicitly teaching the skills the child needs (like emotion regulation and handling transitions), and motivate centers on using positive reinforcement to increase desirable behaviors; the trio works together to provide a consistent, child-led approach.
Train Smarter, Not Harder: Heart Rate Zones, VO2 Max, and Better Fitness: Session 329 with Nick Green
Q: What strategies do you use to help clients adhere to an exercise plan over the long term?
Effective adherence relies on planning, environmental structuring, data sharing, accountability, and progressive conditioning, with coaching support tapering as a client gains autonomy.
Train Smarter, Not Harder: Heart Rate Zones, VO2 Max, and Better Fitness: Session 329 with Nick Green
Q: What is VO2 max, and how can a non-lab athlete estimate or improve it?
VO2 max represents the volume of oxygen your body uses during exertion; wearables provide crude estimates, while the most accurate measures come from lab testing; improvements come from sustained time in aerobic zones (zones 2-3) and high-intensity intervals like 4x4.
Train Smarter, Not Harder: Heart Rate Zones, VO2 Max, and Better Fitness: Session 329 with Nick Green
Q: So why is zone training important, and how do you determine where to spend your time in zones 2, 3, and 4?
Zone training targets ensure you work at intensities that meaningfully elevate heart rate and energy expenditure, with wearables helping track how much time is spent above resting heart rate and in the targeted zones.
The 2025 Verbal Behavior Conference Panel Discussion: Session 326
Q: What strategies exist for teaching man (mand) when reinforcers are highly variable and moment-to-moment changes occur?
Panelists emphasize observing and adapting reinforcement contingencies in the moment, utilizing shaping, contingency-based play, and considering the child's current MO to keep motivation aligned with learning opportunities.
