  • Frank and Smart

Red Sox fans need commentary that trusts both the intelligence and the passion of their fandom. Mazz calls out the team when it fails, and he does it with facts. Essential listen.

  • Sharp Red Sox analysis

I love the insightful analysis and the guests, especially Jared. Tony Mazz draws on a long history of reporting on the Red Sox and on baseball.

I do get tired of the negativity but when the Sox are bad like last year and early this season, Tony is right to point that out.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Brayan Bello’s Struggles Continue // Chris Cotillo Joins the Show // Red Sox vs Royals - 5/18
Q: Let me ask you the question, Chris, to start sort of a big picture question.
The Red Sox may be at a crossroads and could choose to fully embrace a youth movement or pursue a midseason trade strategy to salvage the season, depending on how the next six weeks unfold.
DEEP DIVE on Mike Trout - Breaking Balls with Tony Mazz
Q: What would it take for Trout to be traded to a contending team, and which teams could be realistic fits?
It would require Trout and the Angels to agree on a path for a trade, potentially with the Angels eating a portion of the deal; realistic fits mentioned include teams like the Braves and the Phillies, depending on the contractual concessions and Trout's willingness to relocate for a championship run.
DEEP DIVE on Mike Trout - Breaking Balls with Tony Mazz
Q: Why is Mike Trout still with the Angels, and why hasn't he pushed to leave?
The host and guest discuss Trout's no-trade protection, loyalty to Artie Moreno, and the financial and organizational obstacles that make a move complicated; despite his desire for October baseball, Trout hasn't forced a trade yet, possibly due to loyalty, age, contract structure, and the Angels' financial constraints.
Jared Carrabis Joins the Show // Red Sox Lose 2 of 3 to Twins // Red Sox Callers - 4/15
Q: Is Sonny Gray a good fit for this market and the team?
The hosts discuss Gray's cerebral approach and anxiety in press settings, debating whether his personality plays better in smaller markets and whether Boston's environment exacerbates those challenges, with some callers attributing struggles to market fit and others to pitching form.
Jared Carrabis Joins the Show // Red Sox Lose 2 of 3 to Twins // Red Sox Callers - 4/15
Q: Jared, is Alex Cora the right manager for this team?
Jared expresses a nuanced view: while not the problem, he questions whether Cora is the best fit given the current roster and culture, suggesting a potential need for a different approach or leadership style, but also noting Cora's communication and game knowledge as strengths.
