  • The Silence of the Learned

I scrolled to see if there were any podcasts about the Burke son who have been professionally pariahed in the Bar apprentice scheme or the many legal woes of Enoch Burke. You were instituted to keep the government in check. Instead you’re part of Ireland’s woes. Won’t be listening.

Justice From the Ground Up - The Practice of Community Law | Community Law Series Ep 2
Q: And could you tell us about some of the most impactful cases you've been involved in or campaigns, noting that Eva might have a different view, to add in relation to that?
Absolutely. CLM has pursued landmark cases such as challenging Ireland's debtors' laws that allowed imprisonment for unpaid arrears, a decision that helped deem such imprisonment unconstitutional, and later cases addressing housing access and legal aid thresholds, which led to policy changes like excluding housing support measures from legal aid entitlement calculations. These examples show how strategic litigation can translate into systemic reform and better protections for vulnerable clients.
The Origins of Community Law in Ireland | Community Law Series Ep 1
Q: What would the optimal civil legal aid system look like today, and how should law centres interact with it?
An optimal system would blend strategic, preventative work with strong service delivery, incorporating a national network of law centres, specialist centres, and panels of lawyers, all coordinated to address clustered injustices and deliver education and early intervention to the communities that need it most.
The Origins of Community Law in Ireland | Community Law Series Ep 1
Q: What kept you motivated after so many years in active advocacy for legal aid and access to justice?
Motivation comes from witnessing occasional wins, the ongoing contributions of dedicated colleagues, the public service impact of grassroots education, and the belief that alternative models beyond the status quo can better address recurring injustices in communities.
Employment Bar Association: A Decade of Impact and Annual Conferences
Q: What would you say has been the impact of the EBA over the years since it's been founded?
The EBA has offered authoritative analysis and resources, which practitioners rely on to stay updated in their field.
Employment Bar Association: A Decade of Impact and Annual Conferences
Q: How does it impact you as a member?
The EBA is getting stronger as employment law expands quickly, providing a collective voice and support network for practitioners.
