Layshia Clarendon’s time with the group was short & sensational. The Annie Costabile addition has slowed things down a lot, with tons of filler words and phrases. Really disappointing to hear the lack of intersectionality in a lot of the cultural analysis on these episodes. Annie seems more interested in doing mainstream-style commentary than doing truly insightful and challenging journalism. It’s a disservice to Sabreena’s even-keeled but thorough analysis of both basketball and culture, and Zena’s efforts to bring diverse perspectives forward without straight up disagreeing with Annie’s loudly flat perspectives on race and gender.
