Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Leading With Trust in a Polarized Public Health Moment
Q: What does success look like beyond placement numbers, and how do you know the messaging is landing with audiences?
Success includes ongoing impact beyond August, with messages repeated by physicians and community leaders, and tangible outcomes like conversations in exam rooms and increased vaccination conversations in communities.
Leading With Trust in a Polarized Public Health Moment
Q: How did you activate and prepare spokespeople across national leaders and local chapters to speak consistently and credibly in the media?
We used a multi-tier approach: training, tailored talking points for each interview, rapid response support, and sharing local data to keep messaging authentic to communities while maintaining physician credibility.
Leading With Trust in a Polarized Public Health Moment
Q: What made you realize this moment required a more intentional and elevated communication strategy for National Immunization Awareness Month?
There's heightened attention on vaccines due to current headlines; the goal was to ensure family physicians sit at the table in public discourse, anchoring messages in science and patient trust amidst politicization.
Leading With Trust in a Polarized Public Health Moment
Q: So to start us off, can you give listeners a quick snapshot of your mission, who you serve, and the role communications and advocacy play in supporting family physicians and communities they care for?
The AAFP represents nearly 130,000 family physicians, residents, and medical students, who are trusted for a broad range of care; communications and advocacy focus on equipping them with resources to communicate about vaccines and to inform policymakers, while emphasizing science and evidence.
Future-Proofing Marketing: What Associations Need to Know Now
Q: Why is a long-range foresight approach important for associations, rather than quick yearly checklists?
Because pace of change is so fast, a five-to-ten-year horizon provides adequate runway to adapt, test, and implement strategies that will keep associations relevant as technologies and consumer behaviors evolve.
