Reviews

5.0 out of 5 stars from 7 ratings
  • Really worth your time

One of the best crypto podcasts that I’ve heard. Instead of following whatever the flavor of the month is from a narrative and price perspective, the archive actually explores builders, their journeys, and identifying the common threads or lessons that any aspiring founder or investor would find valuable.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

John Morrow, Co-Founder, Gauntlet
Q: Just to get into it, Conlet does a lot of stuff these days. You guys are active in asset management, you're still active in risk. What's the best way to actually describe what Conlet is today?
Conlet builds financial models for crypto with a software platform for crypto and DeFi assets. They offer Applied Research for custom protocol solutions and automated on-chain vaults, enabling users to pursue complex investment strategies on-chain, including lending, market making, and perpetuals.
Dan Guido, Trail of Bits
Q: What are you guys today? Is it only security, or is there more breadth and depth to what Trail of Bits does?
Trail of Bits started as a security-focused research and consulting lab with government work, then grew into a diversified mix of consulting, research, and tool development, including government DARPA programs and private-sector security audits. The aim is to advance the field through fundamental research, build foundational tools, and help clients learn and improve, with a strong emphasis on practical impact and openness.
Building the System of Record for Crypto, with Ethan Chan, CEO of Allium | Ep. 2
Q: What makes Allium different from trying to build data in-house for a crypto company?
We function as an extension of a company's data engineering team, offering a centralized, reliable data layer across many chains, with managed infra and SLA-level reliability. This lets clients avoid massive upfront costs and ongoing maintenance while gaining access to a broader, higher-quality data set and better governance.
Building the System of Record for Crypto, with Ethan Chan, CEO of Allium | Ep. 2
Q: How did the bear market affect your strategy and customer acquisition?
The bear market was the best time to build. We focused on validating the need, shipping proof-of-work like the Telegram bot, and leaning into cost-effective data delivery. This period forced us to prove we could be a reliable partner with an efficient infra model, which helped us win large teams that were downsizing and looking to outsource data workloads.
Building the System of Record for Crypto, with Ethan Chan, CEO of Allium | Ep. 2
Q: What led you to start Allium after your time at Primer and in AI?
I saw the data bottleneck firsthand in crypto—fragmented sources, unreliable datasets, and the need to combine on-chain data with off-chain datasets. That gap, plus the open-source/open-data ethos of crypto, made me believe there was a big opportunity to build an enterprise-grade data platform that could scale and be trusted.
