Now I am hooked. Wish I didn’t wait this long to start.

This podcast sat in my feed for a long time before I had the courage to start listening.

Today, I started with Episode 2 of Life of the Mind (which starts with chapter 1 of the book).

So far this year (2025) this wonderful little episode is the first online experience that did not leave me in a state of high anxiety BUT somehow returned me back to the “real” world in a way that makes me feel better equipped to engage with it.

The Social Question, Parts IV-VI | On Revolution, Chapter 2
Q: Could you discuss how Arendt's framework addresses the issues of racism and anti-black sentiment in relation to slavery?
Berkowitz explains that Arendt argues the invisibility of slaves due to the structure of slavery allows founders to focus on freedom. He acknowledges her stance draws parallels between anti-Semitism and racism. He notes that while racism certainly played a role in the American context, it was the institution of slavery itself that erased the humanity of slaves from the view of the founders.

Q: Haley's reflection on Arendt's perspective and the ambiguity of Jefferson's wording in the Declaration.
Roger acknowledges that Arendt's exploration of Jefferson's wording remains ambiguous, suggesting it may have been a stylistic choice rather than a deeper philosophical debate.
