  • Two sides of the coin

Jeff and Luca really do a great job going through different development strategies related to Agile Embedded work. Their discussions are entertaining and informative. It is refreshing that the Jeff and Luca have different approaches, which makes for engaging episodes. I am not an embedded developer, but I really enjoy the product development conversation.

Linux Profiling with Mohammed Billoo
Q: What should be embedded in a system from the start to facilitate future profiling?
Incorporate instrumentation and tracing into the build and CI/CD process, so you can capture performance data early and have checkpoints to verify boot times and run-time behavior as the project evolves.
Linux Profiling with Mohammed Billoo
Q: What's the first step you take when a device is reported as slow?
Isolate whether the slowdown is in user space or kernel space, then use tools like LTTng and perf to profile and visualize where time is actually being spent before drilling into specific drivers or code paths.
Violet Su on hardware manufacturing
Q: How can you speed up the process of creating prototypes?
By getting feedback from local communities and learning from their needs, which helps create better products more quickly.
Violet Su on hardware manufacturing
Q: What sorts of things catch people by surprise?
People are surprised by how hard hardware development can be, especially in understanding the complexities and costs involved.
John Taylor on the Embedded Systems Cookbook
Q: What guidance does the cookbook give in terms of what to nail down at the start of the project versus what can be left until later?
The cookbook provides a structured approach to project stages, including critical mass requirements, initial software architecture, and important project strategies to establish before moving into detailed design.
