  • The BEST acting podcast - should be part of acting school curriculum

This podcast has allowed me to look forward to house chores (and anything else you can do while listening to a podcast)… while every actor’s journey is different, Alyshia has created an online community with transparency that helps us all recognise a rewarding journey is also always challenging. That being said, each episode is incredibly inspiring - it really should be taught /included in any acting school’s curriculum for all students to listen to. Thank you for making this podcast Alyshia !

  • A NeverEnding Masterclass in Reslience

I stumbled across this podcast while listening to the Just Shoot It podcast. I am SO glad I did. Alyshia asks all the right questions that affirms your journey as an actor. I get so motivated and inspired by listening to the stories of each of her guests. ESPECIALLY that Laurence Fishbourne episode, which can I say, was so incredibly refreshing and positive. To hear the full story of such an iconic black actor’s career was incredible to me especially as a woman of color. THANK you Alyshia for th... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

JONNY COYNE: The Resilience Behind Hollywood's Favorite Villain
Q: What was the shift like from UK theater to American television for you?
The shift involved recognizing the need to move from a primarily theater-focused path to pursuing screen work, building an international network, and learning to audition in a different market with its own pace, casting culture, and opportunities.
TONATIUH: Choreographing the Camera
Q: What was your audition scene for Love Story and how did you approach it differently from the eventual depiction?
The audition scene was a single conversation between Carolyn and Narciso. Tonatiuh initially used a groundier, sardonic take but later realized that Narciso in the story is actually very kind and reserved, which informed his performance in the role.
CONOR LESLIE: Dance for You, Not for Them
Q: How do you approach self-tapes and what tips would you share for being effective with limited time?
She emphasizes not overproducing the tape, keeping lighting and reader clear, using simple framing, and ensuring you bring the essence of the character with a strong backstory and instinct-driven performance.
CONOR LESLIE: Dance for You, Not for Them
Q: What was your first audition that you remember, and what did you learn from it?
Her first audition for Jumper at age 15 was nerve-wracking but validating; the casting director encouraged her and helped her trust her instincts, setting the tone for listening to herself and not overthinking.
CHRISTINA CHANG: 'Mom of the Century' in Heated Rivalry
Q: How has your audition process evolved after twenty years in the business?
Christina explains that, with experience, she focuses on staying human and relational in auditions, learns to balance being true to the character with the director's vision, and uses past settings to inform present performances, especially in high-pressure environments like medical dramas and testing for big shows.
