  • Generally I good show

    - openings are too much not telcom but once you get to telcom it’s great

    - the discussion in Israel protests was interesting and I found myself, as a fellow white man, thinking how privileged your comments were. It’s easy to condemn protesters when we’ve literally had to fight for nothing.

  • Too long and not accessible for all

I’m a woman who is about to start a job in telco. This podcast had some great titles but I found it totally inaccessible 1) it’s far too long and you have to sift through lots of inane chat before you get to any useful content 2) the inane chat is centred around things like football which makes it extremely off-putting to someone like me who is not interested in football. It’s a shame as it could be very useful if properly edited and if a wider audience was considered in its creation.

  • Mostly great!

Really informative when the hosts stick to their area of expertise, I.e. telecoms. Not so great when they veer into adjacent subjects like net neutrality or Sec 230, their lack of in-depth knowledge in those areas becomes quickly apparent. The best episodes are when they bring on execs from telecoms companies.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Regulation, spectrum and Ofcom
Q: What's your take on dynamic spectrum access and databases for spectrum management?
Amit argues for dynamic spectrum access with a central or distributed database to allocate spectrum where needed, potentially prioritizing mobile when traffic grows and Wi‑Fi indoors otherwise, while ensuring protection against interference via a management framework.
Regulation, spectrum and Ofcom
Q: Can you explain why spectrum policy and auctions matter so much to operators and regulators?
Amit explains that spectrum policy shapes competitive dynamics, costs, and deployment tempo. Auctions can raise revenue but risk misallocation if not well designed; renewals and cross-border coordination are also essential tools to balance incentives for investment with consumer welfare.
Satellite, AI and 6G
Q: What is the dominant takeaway from the MWC discussions on AI and 6G?
The dominant takeaway is that AI and 6G discussions are less about flashy hardware and more about trustworthy AI, data quality, governance, and how to meaningfully integrate AI into RAN and future networks without losing human oversight.
ASML, chips and geopolitics
Q: How do you feel about being in the middle of geopolitical tensions?
Hijink reflects on the neutral position of ASML in the semiconductor market and the challenges of navigating U.S.-China relations.
ASML, chips and geopolitics
Q: Why is ASML unique in the semiconductor industry?
Hijink discusses ASML's innovative technology and how it has evolved into a natural monopoly in lithography.
