As Asian physician trained in both western medicine and TCM, I often incorporate my knowledge of both in management of patient’s symptoms TCM often offers very unique views and ways to address symptoms, particularly symptoms of organ dysfunction without pathological findings. In patients treated with western medicine for pathological organ disorders, TCM can enhance overall wellbeing. I am glad to see younger generation is interested in exploring the benefits of TCM from a leveled angel.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 3: We're ambitious but stuck
Q: How should someone approach persistent cold hands and fatigue with digestive concerns?
Consider a pattern of coldness with underlying deficiency; focus on warming, improving circulation, and nourishing the body with balanced routines, while consulting a TCM practitioner for a personalized assessment.
Episode 3: We're ambitious but stuck
Q: What should I do when I feel stuck and ambitious but unable to move forward?
Break the goal into tiny, easy steps and wider entry points; create a simple hiking plan with the first few steps, and start with the smallest possible action to build momentum.
Episode 5: A different kind of new year
Q: What pragmatic steps help with a sensitive relationship to food around the mid-cycle cravings?
Avoid strict dieting; aim for three real meals daily that are warm or room temperature, sit down to eat without distraction, and acknowledge cycle-related changes in hunger. Add dysregulation techniques like short daily mindfulness or breath work, journaling, and ensuring adequate protein and fats earlier in the day to reduce late-cycle cravings; emphasize non-judgment and nourishment over restriction.
Episode 5: A different kind of new year
Q: What should someone do to reduce social nervousness at work or on dates?
Shift the mindset from performing for others to engaging in the moment; use longer exhales to activate the parasympathetic system before social interactions, do a quick body scan to release tension, and practice grounding through posture and acupressure. Prepare by thinking about delivering with presence rather than delivering a perfect script, and rely on regulation rather than perfection.
Episode 5: A different kind of new year
Q: How do you address compulsive shopping when the root causes are emotional restlessness and nervous-system imbalance?
Focus on four root patterns: Shen disturbance (emotional restlessness), Spleen qi deficiency (seeking comfort), Liver qi stagnation (anger/irritability driving impulse), and Kidney insecurity (self-worth). Treatment emphasizes nervous-system regulation, nourishment, and anchoring; not just willpower. Practical steps include regular daily routines to calm the nervous system and three core habits: regulating the nervous system, nourishing digestion, and moving stagnant qi.
