  • Covid

The discussion re Fauci today lost me. Fauci damaged this country to an extent we won't be able to calculate for decades. Fauci demonized and discredited scientists who disagreed with his false narrative and labeled Americans who followed the data and saw it did not support the claims, as conspiracy theorists. How anyone can give this monster a pass is beyond me.

  • Good, but trying to do too much

I enjoy this podcast. What I really like is the formula of how topics are covered. It is very helpful to know what each side of the political spectrum is saying about current events. Concise, informative, and digestible is how I would describe this podcast.

Here is why I am not giving it 5 stars. The creators seem to want to keep trying new things and expand what they are doing, and the service they are providing. One example is Tangle’s odd decision to bring on Kmele Foster to contribute on p... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

The U.S. oil deal with Venezuela.
Q: How much of the flooding in Nepal is because of climate change?
The climatologist explains that while climate change is associated with more extreme weather, attributing a single event to warming is not straightforward; the disaster is linked to glacier dynamics, regional warming trends, and a broader pattern of climate-influenced extreme events, not a direct, singular cause.
The U.S.–Canada trade war escalates.
Q: What has happened to the money that the government refunded to companies after tariffs were struck down, and will consumers see direct refunds?
Refunds have been issued to companies, with notable credits to major corporations; the likelihood of direct consumer refunds remains low, as the money is largely staying with the businesses that initially paid higher prices.
The Michigan primaries.
Q: Jerry asked how the hosts use reader polls to decide which topics to cover, and whether they always follow the majority or sometimes choose other stories.
The show polls readers via text messaging and newsletter surveys to gauge interest, but they do not follow the majority slavishly. The results provide a signal about what topics matter most to engaged readers, and can decisively influence agenda-setting when there isn't a clear front runner, though the team sometimes covers topics they hadn't initially prioritized based on those signals.
A potential breakthrough in Gaza.
Q: What is the status of Hamas's disarmament under the Board of Peace plan, and what are the practical hurdles to implementation?
The hosts summarize that while Hamas publicly agreed to some disarmament terms, the plan remains contingent on Israel's withdrawal and independent verification, with significant skepticism about whether all terms can be satisfied in practice and whether the security guarantees will hold.
PREVIEW: SPECIAL EDITION - Ari Weitzman interviews climate research lead at Stripe Zeke Hausfather about the recent wild fires.
Q: So how and what can be done to mitigate these fires and their impacts on communities?
The guest explains that the boreal is vast and not realistically controllable through universal thinning or road-building. Instead, focus should be on protecting communities through defensible spaces, building hardening, and targeted thinning and controlled burns near populated areas and at risk interfaces.
