  • This podcast lost me at “they”.

It’s pretty clear that this show is too woke to think straight. Aboriginal land acknowledgments at the start; Aboriginal land acknowledgments at the end (why repeat yourself?); and the show’s idea of a counterpoint to the reasoning powers of the eminent Jonathan Haidt is some nonentity called “Min” who speaks entirely in featherweight bromides and whom the host keeps calling “they”. If you’ve signed up for the asinine craze of gender ideology by default, there goes most of your credibility and a... more

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

China + Tech
Q: Can you talk through the key differences between China's centralized tech policy and the more decentralized US approach?
Tim contrasts China's whole-of-government plan and top-down regulation with the US tendency to empower private tech firms and pursue competitive, market-driven policy, noting China's emphasis on global public good versus US focus on national interests.
China + Tech
Q: So Tim, how did you come to be an Australian living in Beijing focusing on these issues?
Tim describes a winding path through Asia, studying Chinese and economics, and choosing to live in the region to chase opportunities in tech and China's rise.
Tech + Trump
Q: How does China's diffusion model differ from the US approach, and what does that imply for global competition?
China emphasizes scale and practical utility through state-driven investment in good-enough models, which can outpace perfection-focused Western approaches in certain AI applications, reshaping global competitiveness.
Tech + Trump
Q: Why is there a call for a national technology council in the US, and how would it function?
The goal is to provide a unifying focal point in government to craft and implement coherent tech policy across agencies, bridging security, economic, and societal implications to guide long-term strategy.
Tech + Trump
Q: Can you take us through how you assess power in the tech landscape?
We identify five dimensions—innovation leadership, industrial capacity, the market ecosystem, the talent pipeline, and national leverage—to build a nuanced picture of a country's competitive position rather than a simple win/lose verdict.
