  • Loved it..having some issues now.

Been listening for a while and enjoyed it. I found lots of value in the commentary and it helped me understand. Now I’m really struggling with the sudden increase of filler phrases such as “right” or “you know” being injected way too often. I don’t know why the change happened, it wasn’t always there. It might sound silly but it’s detracting from the message in a way that makes it impossible for me to focus. Tried to power through a week of episodes unsuccessfully before I wrote this. Sorry but ... more

  • Great Information

    But please slow-down.

When I listen, I imagine you are talking while constantly peering over your shoulder to check a clock as you think, “I’m late!! I’m late!!”

Wouldn’t it be better to instead slow-down and “savor” every word of these beautiful texts?

Avodah Zarah 44: The Bathhouse of Aphrodite

Avodah Zarah 44: The Bathhouse of Aphrodite
Q: What are you doing in this bath house of Aphrodite?
Rabban Gamliel explains that the bathhouse existed before the idolatrous statue, asserting that he is in the bathhouse for its practical purposes, not its pagan associations.
Avodah Zarah 20: No Mercy, No Favors
Q: Do you have a sense though of, am I missing something here in the Gemara, about why the gift giving to the non-Jew is such a problem?
The hosts discuss the implications of gift-giving versus business transactions, emphasizing it as an extension of creating barriers between Jews and non-Jews.
Shevuot 26: So Much Forgetting of Things
Q: What's the halacha when someone is hungry but not in a life-threatening situation and breaks an oath?
If he would have stopped himself from eating had he remembered the oath, he would need to bring a korban; if not, he does not need to atone.
Shevuot 26: So Much Forgetting of Things
Q: What happens if somebody takes an oath concerning a particular loaf, and he's now prohibited from eating it?
He would need to eat it for pikuach nefesh (to save his life), and is not culpable for breaking the oath in that case.
