  • Inspiration!

While recovering from surgery I discovered your pod and fell in love and in inspiration. I could sit in my garden, listen to the possibilities, and redesign my garden. I realized my garden is pretty special but with some tweaks I can make it extraordinary. Thank you and congrats on a wonderful podcast 👏👏👏👏👏

  • Dan Pearson

Absolutely loved this episode. Having read all of his books, it’s so exciting to hear him speak so highly of North American native woodland plants. Living in Canada, it fills my heart to hear that he is so fond of them. Terrifically excited to hear about his plans for the Beth Chatto Gardens.

  • Not to my liking!

The Podcast guests are interesting, some are my gardening hero's and I would have liked to listen to more but the adverts attached to these podcasts are shoddy brands. Businesses that do not reflect well on the Garden Illustrate brand. You would never see these adverts within the magazine, so why have them on your associated podcast? Gardening takes us out of the busy world we live in. Then you come to listen to your gardening hero on a podcast, to be reminded that I need weight loss and burger... more

  • Focus on gardening more.

Loved this podcast until the recent one with Jo Thompson where a huge portion of the podcast consisted of gender politics rather than gardening/design. This episode left me feeling rather downcast about my future in garden design from a female perspective. Focus more on horticulture please.

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Matthew Pottage
Q: What about the role of public spaces and accessibility—how does that influence your dream garden?
He emphasizes accessibility and public engagement, imagining a space that people can walk into without barriers, with a mix of traditional and meadow/plains styles so visitors experience contrasts within a short walk.
Matthew Pottage
Q: So if we want to start and you tell me, out of all the places that you've been and you've seen, is there a garden that you would have to include in some way in your sort of fantasy imaginary Eden?
He'd fuse Iford Manor and Stonehouse Cottage to create a hybrid with intimate spaces, architectural detailing, and a strong sense of place, then explore how those elements could translate into a dream garden.
Luciano Giubbilei
Q: Luciano, could you tell us about a garden, place, or landscape that stays with you and what you'd like to capture in your dream garden?
I'm drawn to places with a strong sense of presence and silences, like Villa Gamberaia and its black-and-white photography which taught me about scale, rhythm, and the careful framing of space. In my dream garden, I'd want that same quiet, sculptural rhythm and a sense of timelessness that comes from trees, water, and intelligent planting.
Adam Frost
Q: How has your career and approach to gardening evolved from your early days to Chelsea and beyond?
I started in the parks department, learned from mentors, and gradually built a design-and-build practice that emphasized habitat, soil, and moral responsibility to the countryside, culminating in Chelsea and later collaborations that allowed me to bring those principles to larger audiences.
Alys Fowler
Q: What do you think of the rewilding trend?
Alys expresses skepticism about the term rewilding but supports the essence of being ecologically kind.
