  • Dog Rescue

I really love the idea of fostering a dog to help make its way to a lifelong home and good life.

Our first foster was nine years old and his adoptive family was so excited to welcome him. We go see him once in a while and he has the perfect life.

I enjoy fostering and volunteering. I think Coco’s Heart is a solid organization.

  • A great new way to get my dog fix

I jumped into the rescue/foster community a few years ago and have never looked back. I love fostering and I enjoy this new take on creating a community of dog lovers as well as providing education. I have already learned new things both about CHDR and about rescue and I’m excited for what is next. I find myself waiting each week for the new one to come out! Please keep them coming. ❤️🐶

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Clinic Confessions, Veterinary Life in Animal Rescue
Q: Shannon, how does the scheduling, sometimes our fosters ask too, how does it get figured out? What is your process for scheduling doctors, veterinarians, and technicians? How does that look like here at Coco's Heart?
Doctors are scheduled far out (months ahead; some lines show December planning), with dental and extraction slots opening further out, and tech schedules adjusted to fit available staff. The more technicians available, the more appointments can be booked, and the Vet Hero system helps manage openings as staff capacity changes.
Kim's Story: Italian Greyhouds, Quirky Dogs, and 230+ Foster Dogs
Q: Would you rather own a beagle or a Sheba (Siberian?)?
Beagle, 100 percent—the breed's personality fits the guest's described home and lifestyle, combining affection with a practical, curious nature.
The Heart that helped build Coco's Heart-Meet Laurie
Q: Laurie, how did your leadership shape the growth of Coco's Heart and the mentor program?
Laurie describes growing from a small coffee-shop group to a robust leadership team, emphasizing honesty, persistence, and scalable processes as the mentorship program expanded. She highlights how volunteers learned to support each other, set policies, and adapt to the evolving needs of dogs and adopters while maintaining core values.
Bully Breeds & Big Hearts, featuring Stephanie!
Q: How did your role evolve at Coco's Heart, and what surprised you most about intake?
I moved into intake after years of fostering and realized the role demands both organization and empathy. I brought tools I'd used elsewhere—like laminated intake and kennel cards—and they fit right in, helping streamline processes and improve communication with fosters and adopters.
