  • Thorough and informative, with Jives videos taking an ambient and also ethereal quality at times. I appreciate how he presents evidence that can sometimes be peculiar or uncomfortable for people across the spectrum regarding European history, but in the current climate this diligence is more important than ever. This podcast is a breath of fresh air against pop history that either presents our past as a rose garden of noble savages, or as something shameful... Or completely warps it...

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Europe's Last Pagans
Q: How do contemporary archaeological findings support or challenge the medieval and early modern written accounts of Baltic pagan practices?
Archaeology provides tangible evidence like sacred fires, hilltop sanctuaries, and temple remains that help corroborate aspects of the textual sources, yet it also reveals gaps—such as uncertainties around Romova—and shows that many practices were local and variable, not a fixed pan-Baltic pantheon.
Europe's Last Pagans
Q: What prompted you to write Silence of the Gods and broaden the geographic scope beyond the Baltic to include other northern and eastern European peoples?
The motivation was to fill a gap in historiography by showing that pre-Christian religious traditions across northern and eastern Europe deserve a place in the broader history of religion, not just as footnotes to Christianity, and to examine how late medieval and humanist writers approached these cultures with curiosity rather than simplistic demonization.
Pagan Pilgrimage in Holy Europe with Aki Cederberg
Q: How might a synthesis between Christianity and Paganism be achieved when they're quite theologically opposed?
Aki struggled with this and suggested that perhaps we need to accept the tension between the two rather than view it as a battle, and explore a synthesis from a place of understanding rather than conflict.
Pagan Pilgrimage in Holy Europe with Aki Cederberg
Q: Aki, would you please explain how you think that pilgrimage might be an antidote to the crisis of modern Europe?
Aki believes that pilgrimage helps restore the connection to the sacred and counters soul loss, emphasizing that the divine can be experienced in sacred landscapes and holy sites throughout Europe.
The Middle Aged Werewolf: Paul Waggener
Q: What does it mean to you to live with purpose?
To live with purpose means ensuring that all day-to-day actions are in line with a greater intention or goal.
