  • Christians listening, too.

I have been listening for many years, and I’m a priest in one of the branches of Christianity. It hurts a bit when speakers speak insensitively or in overly general, facile ways about our Christian spirituality, which can actually be greatly enhanced by Buddhist wisdom. I ask dhamma speakers to consider that it is ignorance of Right Speech to do, and hinders us all in the bonds on compassion. 🪷 Respectfully offered. Radiant silence. Peace. Metta. Samadhi. 🪷

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Personal Issues and Emotional Hangups
Q: Can the idea of having many personal issues be a delusion that prevents practice?
Yes, treating issues as personal burdens can be a delusion; understanding suffering as impermanent and witnessing it with awareness helps move toward the deathless.
Personal Issues and Emotional Hangups
Q: Is it correct to think that meditation aims to calm the heart and empty the mind of thoughts?
Meditation is not primarily about creating a calm heart or emptying thoughts; it involves understanding suffering, recognizing impermanence, and seeing non-self, which enables a more stable and clear mind.
Personal Issues and Emotional Hangups
Q: Does one need to work through all one's issues in order to practice Dhamma?
No; the host is encouraged to shift away from solving every issue toward trusting in Dhamma and developing wisdom that illuminates suffering without being trapped by personal grievances.
Not Wanting Things to Be the Way They Are
Q: How can we practice this in daily life when moods shift upon waking?
By noticing the mood, staying with the sensation without acting on it, and allowing awareness to stabilize the mind rather than chasing positivity or suppressing negativity.
Not Wanting Things to Be the Way They Are
Q: What is Wippowa Dhamma and how does it relate to desire?
It is the desire to get rid of things we don't like, a form of craving that Buddha describes as central to suffering; recognizing this urge helps shift focus from resisting experiences to witnessing them with awareness.
