  • Just awesome!

Stuck on sound is quickly becoming my favorite podcast! I met Joey a couple of years back when my band recorded at his studio in Monroe, Georgia. He is a very interesting person with a lot of stories to tell. And is quick and happy to explain anything that’s going on in his world. I look forward to listening every week!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Episode 10: Ariel Hyatt on Marketing, Publicity, Artist Identity, and Building a Sustainable Music Career
Q: What does she consider essential for a sustainable music career beyond chasing streams?
Hyatt emphasizes bonding with fans, building a real community, and the bond marketing approach over buzz campaigns, arguing that a thousand true fans paying consistently far outvalue a burst of superficial popularity.
Episode 10: Ariel Hyatt on Marketing, Publicity, Artist Identity, and Building a Sustainable Music Career
Q: How did Ariel Hyatt first get into the music/PR space and what drove her toward publicity?
She grew up in a arts-centered family, pursued theater in college, and moved into the music industry through internships, ultimately creating Ariel Publicity to carve out a space where she could directly support artists with authentic, community-focused publicity.
Episode 8: Thom “TK” Kidd on Analog Decisions, Producer Psychology, AI Tools, and Staying the Course
Q: Do you have a watershed moment that solidified your path in this career?
Yes. There were moments of working with Elton John and Phil Ramone on high-profile projects, and also getting that sense early on that this was what I was meant to do, reinforced by the experience of managing demanding sessions and producing records that satisfied artists.
Episode 5: Alan Clarke and Gavin Strube on AI, Copyright, Digital Replicas, and Protecting Creative Work
Q: What about training data and compensation for using artists' music to train AI?
There should be balance and potential compensation for data providers; licensing music for AI training, and the creation of a tracking/licensing framework akin to performance rights organizations, are discussed as potential solutions.
Episode 5: Alan Clarke and Gavin Strube on AI, Copyright, Digital Replicas, and Protecting Creative Work
Q: Is there a route to copyright AI-assisted works, and should artists register?
Registration can be beneficial for enforcing rights; one option is to register the prompt and the resulting work as a derivative or to register the arrangement of elements, with details provided to support claim of human authorship.
