  • Poor production quality

Important topic discussion by experts ruined by poor sound production, background email bings and shuffling noises.

  • Ignoring the hard topics and lacking depth now. Degraded offerings.

This used to be a go to for geopolitical analysis but sadly no more. Lack of depth in analysis and completely ignoring the major global events such as a European war and the challenges to the balance of power in the Indo- Pacific region. These events do not exist in the Rane worldview. Better off accessing podcasts from reputable news outlets or geopolitical analysts who have interests in actual global politics.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Iran, Russia, and the Future of Cyber Warfare
Q: How might narrative shaping and information operations be tactics used either by the Iran side, the GCC side, or the US-Israeli side?
Narrative shaping is used to justify actions and manage public perception; Iran may push anti-American sentiment while GCC states attempt to control the narrative to maintain business stability and investment appeal, with Western actors highlighting security justifications and moral high ground.
Iran, Russia, and the Future of Cyber Warfare
Q: How could the cyber tools and tactics that Russia is using and potentially sharing with Iran be applied in the case with the Iran conflict specifically regarding the GCC countries?
The GCC could face a similar pattern of state-backed hacktivism targeting critical infrastructure, with Iran leveraging both traditional data-wiper and credential-based intrusions, while knowledge transfer from Russia could broaden their toolset, though direct transfer is not guaranteed due to differing strategic contexts.
Iran, Russia, and the Future of Cyber Warfare
Q: You and the Analyst team have also been closely following the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. What cyber tools and or tactics have we seen being used there?
Russia has shared some cyber tools with Iran, uses cyber as a supporting tool to take down critical infrastructure, and employs a mix of data-wiper, intrusion, and ransomware-adjacent tactics, often through a state-backed hacktivist network that blends politically motivated actions with plausible deniability.
The Geopolitical Power of Water
Q: What are Egypt's primary objectives and strategies regarding the GERD?
Egypt seeks a binding agreement on dam operations to mitigate downstream drought risk, but lacks leverage over Ethiopia and may rely on external pressure (e.g., relations with the US) and regional diplomacy to constrain Ethiopian development and potentially drive a binding governance framework.
The Geopolitical Power of Water
Q: What are the main benefits of the GERD for Ethiopia?
The dam is poised to nearly double Ethiopia's power production, add substantial hydropower capacity to meet growing demand, support manufacturing growth, improve electricity access, and generate hard currency through potential exports, thereby stabilizing the economy.
