  • Great Sewing Chatter

I stumbled across this podcast a short while ago and I am so glad I did. The episodes are informative and inspiring delivered by two authentic individuals who have a fabulous combined knowledge and expertise. I’m a male sewist so, some of the girly stuff, is a bit off for me. Having said that, most of my sewing is for the women in my life! Happy sewing. 🫶🏻

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Lack of confidence, purging patterns & creative differences : Q&A #107
Q: How should one approach pattern sizing and the wide range from 10 to 16, including C-cup adjustments?
They suggest considering the body measurement list for grading, recognizing there is no universal size chart; focus on developing a robust size chart tailored to your customer base and potentially using indie patterns with built-in size ranges.
Lack of confidence, purging patterns & creative differences : Q&A #107
Q: Should muslins be washed before testing fabric shrinkage, and how important is grainline on muslins?
Grainline is important and should generally be followed to avoid misleading results; washing muslin is only necessary if it will be worn as a wearable muslin, otherwise not required.
Lack of confidence, purging patterns & creative differences : Q&A #107
Q: What is the recommended approach to seam allowance for knits and shoulder stabilization across different methods?
The hosts acknowledge that different methods exist (fabric strips, clear elastic, fusible stabilizers) and that there is no single right way; they often defer to listener input or majority preference, settling on the method that works best for most people.
From Sweden to Hawaii: How Sanna Myers built a pattern brand #106
Q: How did you start your journey in pattern making and what led you to Paradise Patterns?
Sanna explained she moved from Sweden to Hawaii, studied pattern making, and gradually found her footing in indie patterns after discovering the sewing community online, which inspired her to start Paradise Patterns.
We hit 100! And answering your sewing dilemmas #100
Q: Tips for buttonholes on knit fabrics?
Reinforce with fusible interfacing, use stabilizers like tear-away or elastic cords to stabilize the stitch area, consider vertical buttonholes for knits, and adjust stitching length and fabric handling to avoid distorting the fabric.
