  • I'm sad I have to Unfollow

This podcast used to be so good about two years ago but now it seems it consist of nothing but Michigan sports. The podcast should go back to focusing on real news and leave the sports to a different podcast.

  • Great podcast!

I love listening to April and guests talk about topics that are important and interesting. I learn something new in every one. Especially like that they’re short enough to listen to running errands or taking a break. I don’t always have time to read an article or research the latest news so these dives into hot topics are helpful!

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Your Stories: The Giving Cherry Tree
Q: Did you ever go back to that tree after that time?
No, it was a one-time harvest; the next season it was gone and the owner had cleaned up the area, ending the moment.
How did Michigan become the cherry capital?
Q: Okay, sour or sweet? What's your favorite?
Nikki Rothwell explains a preference for tart cherries and describes the practical handling and processing steps that bring them to consumers, highlighting the distinct qualities of tart versus sweet varieties.
Your Stories: An ode to Lake St. Clair
Q: Why, beyond personal connection, should Lake St. Clair be considered a Great Lake?
The guest explains that the whole freshwater system—from Lake Superior feeding the interconnected waters to Erie and Ontario—creates a larger, unified hydrological network, making the lake part of an expansive system rather than an isolated body.
Your Stories: The trucks are too heavy
Q: From an engineering perspective, how much can you do to help the roads that have to bear so much weight?
The approach is to keep roads in good condition, optimize pavement surface and base, and pursue funding to either reinforce design or upgrade infrastructure so it can handle heavier loads. In practice this means balancing maintenance timing with the realities of limited resources.
Where does "Up North" begin?
Q: So where does Up North begin for you?
Most people use a blend of personal experience and a visible boundary like the Zilwaukee Bridge or the Clinton area; there's no single universal start, but a gradient defined by place, vibe, and ecological features.
