  • Helpful and Thoughtful

The December episode on “We Can’t Both Be Christians” is a beneficial conversation for intentional, loving, and practical dialogue about the basis for Christianity and any religion, and in this case specifically the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Greg avoids disparaging other’s beliefs or straw manning to oversimplify—instead he uses primary sources, gives clear arguments, and walks through how only one group can be Christians based on what both groups believe.

  • Clear Thinking in a Winsome Fashion

Greg and the whole team make amazing show. It is always clear thinking, challenging, and edifying for the christian and non-christian alike. In an era of noise and lots of podcast fights, this show always builds up, sharpens, and encourages listeners, even if you may not agree with everything said on the show. Thanks STR team for equipping the church.

    Grace and peace to you,

  • Very helpful!

I came across this after reading Greg’s book Tactics. A book that has helped me immensely to process conversations and communicate thoughts more clearly. That’s what this podcast does for me as well, but usually with a more targeted issues such as current events.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Will We Be Held Responsible for Not Warning Non-Believers of the Coming Judgment?
Q: Johnny asks how to approach his parents about the belief that deceased loved ones communicate from the dead, given biblical prohibitions.
Greg advises a gentle, factual conversation that acknowledges the spiritual realm while clearly stating that Scripture prohibits contacting the dead, and encourages maintaining concern for both parents while avoiding direct confrontation, potentially involving conversation with both parents together to address safety and biblical accuracy.
Will We Be Held Responsible for Not Warning Non-Believers of the Coming Judgment?
Q: Bevin asks how to respond when a child is affected by parents' fighting in a way that is appropriate for family and church involvement.
Greg suggests using the VCR method to comfort and redirect the child, advises communicating non-judgmentally with the parents, and recommends if needed a gentle outreach to the parents to inform them about the child's feelings, which may lead to better conflict management without heavy-handed church mediation.
Your Salvation Doesn’t Depend on Following the Old Testament Laws
Q: What happens to everybody else if they don't believe in Jesus?
People who don't believe in Jesus face judgment, but the host emphasizes the need for grace and the offer of forgiveness through Christ, explaining the two-rail choice of punishment or pardon and urging compassionate, clear outreach rather than coercion.
An April Fools’ Day Story
Q: How should Christians approach preferred names and pronouns for transgender individuals?
The host explains that names are conventional and flexible, so using a person's chosen name is generally acceptable to show respect, while pronouns should be handled with more care; they advocate avoiding pronouns that affirm non-biblical beliefs and encourage using the person's name instead, especially in third-person references.
Interview: Stephen Meyer – The Story of Everything
Q: Why is the film framed as a science-based, not faith-based, documentary?
Because the film presents scientific evidence and reasoning that point toward a theistic interpretation, while staying grounded in scientific discourse, and it aims to show how faith can emerge from a rigorous examination of the data rather than prescribing beliefs from the outset.
