  • Helpful and Thoughtful

The December episode on “We Can’t Both Be Christians” is a beneficial conversation for intentional, loving, and practical dialogue about the basis for Christianity and any religion, and in this case specifically the teachings of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Greg avoids disparaging other’s beliefs or straw manning to oversimplify—instead he uses primary sources, gives clear arguments, and walks through how only one group can be Christians based on what both groups believe.

  • Clear Thinking in a Winsome Fashion

Greg and the whole team make amazing show. It is always clear thinking, challenging, and edifying for the christian and non-christian alike. In an era of noise and lots of podcast fights, this show always builds up, sharpens, and encourages listeners, even if you may not agree with everything said on the show. Thanks STR team for equipping the church.

    Grace and peace to you,

  • Very helpful!

I came across this after reading Greg’s book Tactics. A book that has helped me immensely to process conversations and communicate thoughts more clearly. That’s what this podcast does for me as well, but usually with a more targeted issues such as current events.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Descriptive vs. Prescriptive
Q: Is baptismal regeneration a deal breaker for belonging to a church?
Baptismal regeneration is not a works-based salvation issue and one can belong to a church that teaches it, provided other doctrine is sound.
Is Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder?
Q: How can I help students understand the great commandments?
You can teach them that the great commandments are guides to behavior, but we shouldn't look to them for self-justification since nobody can fully keep them.
Is Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder?
Q: Is it okay to focus on beauty, or should we focus more on virtues?
It's important to focus on a person's virtues, as the beauty of character is of greater value than physical appearance.
Is Beauty in the Eye of the Beholder?
Q: How can the biblical writers know how to describe beauty objectively?
They described certain women as beautiful because, likely by the standards of the people at that time, they were beautiful.
If Jesus Is the Firstborn, Does That Mean He’s Part of Creation?
Q: What do you say to the argument that saying Jesus is the firstborn of creation implies he is part of creation?
The term 'firstborn' actually indicates preeminence rather than his being the first created being, referring to his unique authority and divinity, as clarified in related scripture passages.
