  • One of the best!

I absolutely love how much they argue with each other. You can tell they like each other but they’re not afraid to call out BS or rival their opinions in a respectful but still entertaining manner. It’s refreshing and informative! And I love hearing about prospects!

  • Favorite Podcast

This is the podcast that I enjoy the most. I value Ian’s opinions more than anyone else in media. This is true about both the major league and minor league teams. Two suggestions: 1) Let each other finish/develop thoughts a little more before interjecting. This goes more to Chris than Ian, but both could approve. 2) Would enjoy more coverage on the major league depth. You definitely do some, but more consistent updates on the non-prospect players in Worcester would be great.

  • Best Red Sox Pod

Superior knowledge of statistical analysis and personnel at every level of the organization. Their straight-forward fact based opinions is refreshing when considering the negative atmosphere of sports opinionated journalism that permeates Boston sports scene.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

SP Pod #414: Checking In On Each Affiliate And Emails
Q: What would you target at the trade deadline if the Red Sox are sellers?
Power in the infield and impact players who can contribute immediately, but also a balance with long-term potential; not just quantity but quality that can help the system and the major league roster.
SP Pod #411: Pitching Debuts And Franklin Arias Power Surge
Q: When do you see Eduardo Rivera returning to the big league roster given his recent debut and roster logistics?
Rivera showed enough to suggest he will be in the mix again this season, with his next activation likely dependent on roster needs and stay-fit progress; he's a legitimate depth option who could be recalled for spot appearances if injuries or performance require it.
SP Pod #409: Opening Day Rankings Discussion
Q: Mark asked why Mick Gasper isn't getting chatter for a call-up and whether his defense would justify a backup catcher role.
We discussed Gasper's limited catching responsibilities, his primary use at first base, and why he isn't viewed as MLB-quality catching depth at this time.
SP Pod #409: Opening Day Rankings Discussion
Q: Andrew asked how you'd rank younger second- and third-year players against the current list, and how Campbell should be handled now that he's technically graduated.
We explained that ranking minors is about projected major league value and trade value, not past majors; Campbell's scouting update is not a priority right now since he's graduated, but mid-year updates may occur.
SP Pod #408: And Away We Go
Q: How are the Worcester and Greenville rosters shaping up for the season start?
Rosters look solid with a mix of veterans and top prospects; Greenville is expected to be loaded with several top arms and a strong position-player group, while Worcester presents a deeper bullpen and a capable rotation, pending final roster decisions.
