  • More than Music…

This is perfectly enjoyable as a music podcast but it goes beyond into an even deeper realm - the realization of dreams, coping with loss, coming of age. The hosts Eliot and Olivia, father and daughter, mine deeply personal stories cloaked in the joy of music from guests who are learning about themselves even as they tell the best story from their life, thanks to Eliot’s and Olivia’s empathetic and insightful interviewing skills.

  • I love this podcast!

Sonic Impact taps into the powerful influence that music has on our lives. Eliot and Olivia Goldberg have curated an incredible array of of people who were profoundly impacted by a musician early in life and then met and worked with that artist later in life. The stories are engrossing, enlightening and emotional. Plus, as father and daughter, Eliot and Olivia bring a sweet multi-generational POV to the interviews and the music. I’ve devoured them all and I can’t wait for more.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Kevin Martin of Candlebox
Q: What was it like to have your first big hit and then navigate the fame that followed?
Having a platinum debut and Woodstock 94 moment showed both the dream and the pressure; the band learned quickly how to manage success, deal with external expectations, and stay true to their craft while grappling with internal dynamics and the politics of the scene.
Kevin Martin of Candlebox
Q: So I was wondering, what is Candlebox?
Candlebox started as a placeholder name drawn from a lyric about Aboriginals being boxed in; the band evolved from Hammerbox overlap in Seattle, and Candlebox became their enduring name after a demo that felt right and captured the intense energy of their early days.
Bill Appleberry - Producer / Mixer - Wallflowers, Stone Temple Pilots, The Voice
Q: What artists are you hoping to work with in the future, and how do you scout new talent?
Bill emphasizes a continual search for material that moves him musically, a passion for artist development, and a belief in staying open to opportunities that align with the core emotional impact of a song.
Lzzy Hale of Halestorm - A Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne
Q: How did you first get into music and decide to pursue it seriously with Halestorm?
It started with family influence and a shared drive with my brother; we practiced and performed from a young age, gradually building through countless shows before we got signed, discovering our path by staying committed and curious.
Buffalo Tom's Bill Janovitz
Q: What songs or moments most shaped Buffalo Tom's trajectory?
Taillights Fade stood out as a pivotal moment, both in its musical mood and its role as a single that defined the band's early identity, leading to broader recognition.
