Taking Control of Your Career: The Power of Travel Therapy with Kristie Yakovich
Q: Can clinical fellows work as teletherapists, and what experience is preferred before moving into teletherapy?
Clinical fellows typically cannot start teletherapy immediately; it's best if they have completed their clinical fellowship in a school setting or have relevant school-based experience to be successful in teletherapy and handle IEP knowledge.
Taking Control of Your Career: The Power of Travel Therapy with Kristie Yakovich
Q: What should clinicians look for when starting travel therapy, and how does a recruiter help?
Clinicians should ask about caseload size, support structures, paraeducator or assistant availability, and district resources; recruiters help by screening fits, coordinating interviews, and communicating openly to ensure alignment with the clinician's goals and constraints.

Q: What is the primary difference between school-based placements and medical placements?
Medical roles tend to be fast-paced with higher productivity expectations and different documentation systems, while school roles are more stable and primarily require state licensure; some medical roles may require additional certifications like MBS or Vital Stem.
Celebrating SLP Month, Career Growth, and New Opportunities in Speech Pathology LIVE
Q: If I graduate in August, should I wait to apply for CF or start now?
It's not too early to start applying; talk to recruiters, clarify communication preferences, and begin the process so you have options when you graduate, including travel opportunities and local contracts.
Celebrating SLP Month, Career Growth, and New Opportunities in Speech Pathology LIVE
Q: What should a new grad look for in a CF position to ensure mentorship and support?
Seek a mentor who is accessible and experienced, ensure there is a structured support system, expect guidance through IEPs, referal processes, and transitions, and confirm availability of supervision to help you build hours and confidence.
