  • Worth the investment

This podcast is powerful because Joshua spends the time to read and research the work of each person he interviews. Most of the guests are surprised to find how much he knows about the intricacies of their work. I’ve listened to other podcasts that many of these guests have appeared on and Shifting Culture has consistently been a more enjoyable listen because of the investment of the one conducting the interview.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

Ep. 434 Aaron Cline Hanbury - When Machines Can Do More, What Does it Mean to be Alive?
Q: Anything you've been reading or watching that you could recommend?
I'm reading The Science of Storytelling and trying to tackle Moby-Dick this year; both offer insight into narrative and patience, which relate to how we think about technology and culture, alongside a broader interest in the history of food.
Ep. 434 Aaron Cline Hanbury - When Machines Can Do More, What Does it Mean to be Alive?
Q: If you go back to your 21 year old self, what advice would you give?
I would tell myself to consider pursuing law school because a law degree offers flexibility and broad applicability across many fields, providing stability and the ability to adapt to different career paths.
Ep. 438 Kyle Strobel - When God Seems Distant it Isn't Because You Failed
Q: What is the difference between consolation and desert, and how should a believer respond?
Consolation is the early excitement of faith; desert reveals character and dependence on God, and the right response is to continue offering oneself to God, trusting His presence even when feelings fade.
Ep. 438 Kyle Strobel - When God Seems Distant it Isn't Because You Failed
Q: Why does it feel like God is distant even when you're growing spiritually?
Distance often mirrors our expectations and the way we've learned to measure growth; true growth happens as we abandon strategies to control God and instead trust Him, moving from striving to abiding.
Ep. 429 K.J. Ramsey - Finding Joy in the Place Between Our Pains
Q: What advice would you give your 21-year-old self?
Chill the f*** out, embrace silliness earlier, and remember you don't have to take everything so seriously; find space for play and gentleness with yourself.
