  • Superman!

2:00 in and I unfollowed the show. It’s rather dour to begin with, which explains why they don’t like Superman. lol. So… I don’t need more bourbon my life. I need more Superman. This country is going down in flames. I need and want hope and fun. So… unfollowed.

Nathaniel Thompson (film commentator, Mondo Digital)
Q: What would you change about certain endings if you could rewrite them?
Nate would tweak Dead Poets Society's ending to give a more hopeful resolution for Robin Williams' character, while other examples show a desire for endings that fit a director's original vision or better reflect the film's tone.
Nathaniel Thompson (film commentator, Mondo Digital)
Q: How do you handle choosing which titles to do commentaries for, especially when many films exist?
It's a balance of fit and timing. Frank reaches out with a list, and Nate helps choose titles he's passionate about; some films may be offered directly because of archive or thematic fit, while others are pursued with longer development cycles to ensure quality and proper restoration.
Nathaniel Thompson (film commentator, Mondo Digital)
Q: Do you script your commentaries or improvise with co-hosts?
Mostly not a full script. There can be outlines and beats, but the best tracks feel spontaneous and conversational, especially when bouncing ideas off others like Steve or Howard. Some colleagues do script very precisely, but that isn't the norm for these three amigos.
Nathaniel Thompson (film commentator, Mondo Digital)
Q: What is your time process? For a typical Kino Lorber track, how much prep is involved?
Prep varies by film. Some require deep archival digging and library research, while others rely on strong prior knowledge and shorter prep. The goal is to do justice to the film without rushing, and sometimes a filmmaker's presence can dramatically increase the amount of prep needed.
Daniel Roher (Oscar winner, director of Tuner)
Q: What drew you to physical media, and how has it shaped your view of watching films at home versus in the cinema?
Roher emphasizes tactile ownership, nostalgia, and the experience of sharing physical copies with friends, arguing that owning media creates a personal, lasting connection to films that streaming alone cannot provide.
