  • I missed you.

I recently want to build a gazebo from cedar. Being from KY originally, I didn’t think it would be a problem. Not a chance of getting cedar in Rapid City.

I have yet to find a hardwood dealer either. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I get something from every episode, even though some of the information goes over my head.

    Keep up the good work.

That typically indicates juvenile wood, which is softer and less structurally sound than the mature wood.
160 - Peruvian Walnut
Q: Why do lumber stores say they have hickory slash pecan?
Hickory and pecan are almost indistinguishable and are often sold together in the lumber trade.
160 - Peruvian Walnut
Q: Are there other examples of woods affected by volcanic eruptions outside of this region?
There is a product in Japan called Jindai, which is wood buried in volcanic ash, creating a rare and prized material.
LU158 Ponderosa
Q: What species was used for residential stick framing in the Northeast in the 1920s?
It's likely Hemlock due to its characteristics, but Eastern White Pine, Spruce, and Southern Yellow Pine were also common, along with some Douglas Fir from the West.
LU158 Ponderosa
Q: What happens to all of the timber that was destined to be processed in these mills?
While pulpwood is primarily used for paper, without mills, the best approach is to thin the trees and let them grow into timber stock for future lumber production.
