Featuring interviews with both actors and academics, Shakespeare’s Shadows delves into a single Shakespeare character in each episode. Perspectives from the worlds of academia, theater, and film together shape explorations of the Bard’s shadows, his imitations of life — pretty good imitations, ones that reveal enough of ourselves that we’re still talking about them four centuries later.

Wow! I’ve been doing a deep dive into Shakespeare podcasts lately. Some I’ve stuck with and some I abandoned. Shakespeare’s Shadows drew me in from the first line. I was enraptured! I was excited! I wanted to run out to a theater and watch a play! I’m planning to binge the rest and hope for new episodes! Brilliant!!!!
I look forward to every episode of Shakespeare’s Shadows! A primary reason for the podcast’s appeal is the enthusiastic pleasure topnotch Shakespearean actors and scholars convey in responding to the host’s insightful interview questions. Shakespeare’s Shadows provides captivating content for someone who loves history, theater-craft, and/or psychology. Familiarity of the plays is not requisite as each episode gives the listener a masterfully brief synopsis; however, Shakespeare fans will be rewa... more
This podcast is a new perspective on Shakespeare. It is character and production focused. Even if you are not familiar with a play you will come away with an understanding of how Shakespeare is interpreted in the modern world. The show is fun and substantive. She makes even an obscure topic interesting and relevant. She doesn’t talk up or talk down. She distills the humanity and expands the lens of her topics making Shakespeare modern and relevant without compromising the source. Give this podca... more
This podcast is impeccably edited and researched, and each episode is like a treasure trove for a Shakespeare enthusiast like me. The balance of actor and scholar conversations keeps the content engaging and fresh. I have fallen in love with Shakespeare characters I never had a particular fondness for because of this podcast. Emily is a perfect host. I cannot wait for more!!
Ophelia being the muse that drew me in, is rightfully underestimated in mainstream. The wonder I carried for her, about her, and the Bard’s placement of her was satiated while listening to these brilliant minds explore. Along with archetypes of Jung, this will certainly be in my listening circulation.
