Formerly The Desire Gap Podcast

Most people who feel disconnected from their desire, their pleasure, or their partners have spent years assuming something is wrong with them. It isn't. The disconnection is real — but it traces back to what most of us were never taught: how to be in our bodies fully, how to connect to each other authentically, how to know and ask for what we need without guilt or ... more

  • Arousal Styles

The episode on arousal styles so resonated w me. I had never heard of erotic trance and Laura explains this in a way I could not articulate or understand. I have struggled to explain this to my husband and why I am SO sensitive to certain stimuli & how some things are so distracting. I also feel like role play is definitely my secondary & can even help support my “trance”. Thank you!! I know this will be a great tool for communication w my partner / husband.

My wife and I have been to so many counselors over the last 26 years. The podcast has dramatically changed my perspective which is helped our relationship so much. Laura is real with you and cares about helping people find their intimacy in their relationships. My wife and I are going through coaching with her as well. Thank you for real support and a very short amount of time. All the counseling I’ve received over the last 26 years with little to no help! Laura has given us a path forward and... more

The Cult Dynamics Hiding Inside "Sacred Sexuality" Spaces — with Anke Richter
Q: How can people find credible resources and avoid getting trapped in similar dynamics?
Seek out independent analyses, read firsthand survivor accounts, verify leadership histories, and connect with communities or conferences that prioritize transparent accountability and trauma-informed practices, rather than sensational or profit-driven narratives.
The Cult Dynamics Hiding Inside "Sacred Sexuality" Spaces — with Anke Richter
Q: What responsibility do listeners have when they encounter spaces that resemble wellness or spiritual groups?
Listeners should critically assess consent practices, power dynamics, and accountability structures, question leaders' conduct, and be wary of processes that suppress dissent or promote a perfect-world narrative that blames the victim rather than addressing harm.
The Cult Dynamics Hiding Inside "Sacred Sexuality" Spaces — with Anke Richter
Q: Can you walk through how a seemingly benign program can escalate into exploitative behavior?
Yes, it often starts with a powerful workshop high and a sense of belonging, followed by isolation, escalating fees, and pressure to discard boundaries in the name of spiritual growth, with accountability mechanisms being undermined or reframed as personal deficiency.
The Cult Dynamics Hiding Inside "Sacred Sexuality" Spaces — with Anke Richter
Q: What are the biggest myths about cults that you encounter, and how do you define what a cult is?
The biggest myths are that cults only affect the weak or gullible and that they look obviously evil. In reality, they can look normal, even seductive, and the defining traits are power, control, coercive leadership, and a us-versus-them mentality rather than the content alone.
The Cult Dynamics Hiding Inside "Sacred Sexuality" Spaces — with Anke Richter
Q: How did you become involved in investigating sex cults, and what was your origin story?
I started as a journalist who stumbled into a neo-tantra scene and was drawn to the story of ISTA and Centrepoint, which revealed how sexuality could be used to entrench control in high-control groups. It became clear that many groups share a similar dynamic, and the journalist's role became about documenting these patterns and the human impact.
