  • Love this Podcast

I absolutely love this podcast. Great hosts, great guests, and great topics. I am a physician epidemiologist with a PhD in epidemiology and a Master’s in biostatistics. Even with my deep background in epidemiologic methods, I learn a ton from each episode. Thanks Matt and Hailey for creating, hosting, and stewarding this fantastic podcast!

  • One of my favourite epi podcasts

I love this one- the subject matter is great and presented so well by the hosts. I love the way they often step through their own understanding of particular issues or concepts- really brings home the ‘it depends’ aspect of epidemiology. Loving the focus on modern epi this season too- thank you Matt and Hailey!

  • High Distinction

This has been a highly informative podcast for me to listen to as a Masters of Public Health student soon to start their PhD! I love the recent focus on Modern Epidemiology (4th Edition), especially as I was recommended to get this textbook very recently. Synchronicity.

Talking Points

Recent interactions between the hosts and their guests.

S5E1: A Casual Conversation with Miguel Hernán
Q: What motivated you to want to write this book?
A compulsion to teach and a desire to provide tools for others to learn causal inference concepts with less effort.
S4E10: Quantitative Bias Analysis with Dr. Tim Lash
Q: What are the bias parameters needed for selection bias analysis?
For baseline selection bias, you need participation proportions in all combinations of exposure and outcome.
S4E10: Quantitative Bias Analysis with Dr. Tim Lash
Q: What is your definition of quantitative bias analysis?
It's any method that aims to quantify the direction, magnitude, uncertainty from non-random error affecting a study's results.
S4E6: Instrumental Variables with Dr. Rita Hamad
Q: How did you get involved with these kinds of studies?
My interest began with social factors and health inequities, which were further explored through discussions with economists during my studies.
S4E6: Instrumental Variables with Dr. Rita Hamad
Q: What are quasi-experimental designs and why exactly do we need them?
Quasi-experimental designs are similar to experimental designs but without random assignment, allowing exploration of exposures that can't be easily randomized for ethical or practical reasons.
