  • Great info for the lay public

I recommend this podcast for people who are not doctors. There is some great health and medical information here. I particularly like Adam Cifu and wish he were my doctor.

  • Two separate podcasts

The medical panel discussions which examine and critique current medical issues is distinctly separate and very much a different experience than the poetic Friday Reflections by Adam Cifu. I would very much like to see them in separate podcast titles.

  • Objective interviews

I love how the speakers can disagree without being mad at one another! It’s refreshing. I’m not very knowledgeable about the specifics of research, but I get so much out of these discussions about research articles and how to interpret and apply it.

  • Much needed common sense discussions in medicine

Thank you for talking about medical issues and topics, areas of concern in a practical, no nonsense manner. Every physician who contributes here doesn’t seem to be in it for themselves and to get the “likes”. It’s such a breath of fresh air to hear you all discuss passionately about the wacky stuff that’s going on in science (especially in America) and not be afraid to call out and question inaccurate or fishy studies/ health care policies/practices. Not sure if it’s the degradation of our cultu... more

  • Very Interesting!

I’m not a medical doctor, but I still get a lot out of the weekly panels. I wish all news coverage of medicine was as balanced and nuanced as it is on this podcast. Keep up the good work!

Q: What should be done regarding coronary artery calcium scoring in low-risk individuals?
Coronary artery calcium scoring is generally not recommended for truly low-risk individuals as it unlikely adds incremental benefit.
This Fortnight in Medicine XV
Q: Is a statin really needed for someone with high lipoprotein(a) even though it doesn't specifically lower it?
Statins may not be necessary solely for high lipoprotein(a) levels as their predictive effect is quite small in isolation.

Q: Have you ever suggested a patient use DMSO, or would you suggest its use perhaps an adjunct with an existing remedy?
DMSO seems to be only effective in intra-visicular infusions and doesn't have much support for other uses.
This Fortnight in Medicine XV
Q: Should I stay on my blood thinner, eloquence or get a watchman?
You should stay on your blood thinner as watchman is not quite ready for prime time.
Ask Us Anything
Q: Considering rare cancers or other rare conditions, how do we make progress with only a few patients available for study?
Randomized control trials are possible for rare tumors, and the biggest barrier is often not the rarity itself but rather the willingness of institutions to collaborate and share data.
