  • S4, E3

In the October 2023 discussion on Shadal and Ohev Ger, Klein and the host discuss why the facsimile edition of Ohev Ger excluded the introduction. I would suggest (coming out of my doctoral research) that its disappearance reflects Shadal’s change of opinion on the accuracy of his introduction. Through the influence of Shir et al., Shadal later changed his opinion on the origins of Targum Onqelos to a less conservative viewpoint.

Interview on the TMC podcast
Q: How did you come up with the name Seforimchatter?
The name emerged from a previous project in Jewish music (J Music Chatter); it felt like a natural transition to discuss Seforim as new books and scholarship started appearing.
Rav Elazar Fleckles (1754 - 1826) (with Rabbi Moshe Maimon)
Q: Correct. And I don't know if you want to talk about the Besdin Moish now and what it means and what the theories are.
The host introduces a discussion on the Besdin Moshe and the controversy around its interpretation, inviting the guest's perspective on the meaning and theories, which leads into a broader conversation about Fleckles' role on the Besdin and his scholarly approach.
SmallTalk: Karpas - The Big Dipper (with Rabbi Ori Strum)
Q: What is the ultimate message of Karpas for someone doing the Seder this year?
Karpas is a reminder that we are small but precious, and its dipping embodies both hardship and the potential for growth; the act invites question and reflection about our journey from servitude to freedom.
SmallTalk: The Rhyme and Reason Haggadah (with Rabbi Reuven Lowy)
Q: What are you trying to accomplish with this Haggadah?
To foster renewed interest, appreciation, and enjoyment of the Pesach experience and provide a unique companion that pairs poetic language with the Haggadah's concepts.
SmallTalk: The Rhyme and Reason Haggadah (with Rabbi Reuven Lowy)
Q: Who is this Haggadah for, in terms of audience and age?
It's appropriate for high school age and up, with parts that younger kids might enjoy, and suited for Jews of all backgrounds who know what a seder is and appreciate poetry.
